can you spiritually discern what you have read in the bible?

Yes. Before I received the Holy Spirit,No I could not. The bible says in 1 Corinthians 2:14 "But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
I was lost then, But now I found. Was blind, But now I see.
So I thank God for the Holy Spirit, Because I dont know where I would be without it. God Bless

Interesting one...
One passage in the bible (at least) suggests no-one can, without a teacher. (Acts 8: 30-31)

And the range of interpretations of so many bible passages doesn't make it easy to see that there is one authoritative reading or understanding.
Now is that what one ought to expect, or not, if there is a spiritual power at work?

I have a battered copy of "Approaches to Old Testament Interpretation" by Goldingay, which gives an historical overview (and it's complex!), while most individuals and particular groups seem assured that their understanding is, naturally, correct.

Yes most of the time. Sometimes I don't understand what I'm reading and that's why I enjoy going to a good bible teaching church because I can listen to the explanation of passages that I find difficult. A bible study helps as well.

Well I hope so because that is the whole idea. If you are truly being guided by the holy spirit than understanding, knowledge, wisdom will be given to you.

Do I care? No.

I discern using the rationale and logic that your god supposedly gave me. I was made in his image, right? So I figure I should do right by him for everything he gave me. But you know now that I think of it...I wrote all those papers, and read all those books, I spent all that time in deep thought.
