The word Christian is used three times in New Testament (Acts 11:26; Acts 26:28; 1 Peter 4:16). Followers of Jesus Christ were first called “Christians” in Antioch (Acts 11:26) because their behavior, activity, and speech were like Christ. It was originally used by the unsaved people of Antioch as a kind of contemptuous nickname used to make fun of the Christians. It literally means, “belonging to the party of Christ” or an “adherent or follower of Christ,” which is very similar to the way Webster’s Dictionary defines it.
A true Christian is indeed a child of God, a part of God’s true family, and one who has been given new life in Christ. The mark of a true Christian is love for others and obedience to God’s Word (1 John 2:4; 1 John 2:10).

Personally, I take a pragmatic view to the word "Christian". There are hundreds of different sects of Christianity. And too many of them say "No, we're the real ones, and the rest are not", so I find it ridiculous to say only one of them is right.

There are, however, certain OBJECTIVE elements that distinguish Christianity from the other world religions. As the name implies they all have something to do with "Christ", namely Jesus Christ as described in the 4 Gospels. That is the one thing you can be absolutely sure of when somebody says "I am a Christian": that they ultimately place some kind of high importance and emphasis on what's written in those works. Non-Christian religions do not; they have other canon.

It is impossible for any one to attempt to be just like Jesus - long story. There are many who think they are our Lord and Savior. Christ would not have come if people had learned to obey and follow standards of etiquette learned what a fool, conceit, obstinacy, and envy among a very long list of other folly. What most people do not realize is the word folly is derived from Latin and other ancient languages to mean fool and windbag. These days people enjoy attempting to emulate Sophist teachings and many others because they like being nothing but rulers over others.

When Jesus said to his disciples, leave what you have you don't need it - your followers will provide your every need - it was a true statement.

To keep it short, Reread every thing printed in red in the new Testament. Imitate Him as much as possible. I can't be a clone but I can try a little each day. I like beer, and I believe a saying by Ben Franklin God approves of beer because it makes you happy. I never drink too much - just a few at a time, and most days I have none.

Its tough to be humble, Jesus was very very meek, except on occassion he gave severe reprimands.

It means one who follows Christ.

No I don't think it's possible to be like Christ for any extended period of time. Why? Because we have sin natures and that nature will always, always rear its head. Even Paul, the great apostle said, "the good I would do, I do not do; the evil I would not do, I do". I certainly don't consider myself any better than Paul.

if I take a good long look and compare the teaching of Christ to the actions of every day Christians - well - not much has rubbed off at all! I think if he would be alive today he would not know how to fix such agony!
