Diet and stomach crunches but also

80% of ab training is dependent on diet, the other 15-19% is based on training of the body. Do heavy, heavy weightlifting with compound exercises and truly bust your *** in the gym. If you are going to run, run wind sprints. That other 1-5% is your direct ab training. Your abdominal muscles don't get a whole lot bigger (your only goal in ab training), and 95-99% of results are generated by losing body fat while maintaining muscle.
Control your diet. Eat healthy foods, smaller portions, and aim for slightly more protein and slightly less processed carbohydrates.
Drink as much water as possible: it aids in digestion, fullness, and fat burning (a dehydrated body will not be able to used break down fat and use it as energy)
Avoid continuous sitting; move around as often as possible.
Do abdominal exercises, such as sit-ups, crunches, and core lifts such as front squats, lifts, and other lifts that you normally associate with competitive bodybuilders
Remember, the only thing that doing abdominal exercises does is build abdominal muscle. There is no lower, middle, or upper abs: the visible portion is all one muscle.

I found the book to be very informative and easy to read.

I've lost 17 pounds in 12 days, I'm just concerned that I'm losing too much weight, too quickly. I will admit I haven't followed the guide exactly. I'm not sticking perfectly to the listed foods and meal plans (but mostly) and doing very little exercise, but the weight keeps flying off.

It clearly works and if I'd followed it exactly I think it would scare the living daylights out of me because of the amount that I'd lose. So thanks again for the information. I've never purchased anything like this before because they are usually full of trash, but 3WD has been a pleasant surprise.

Only way to do this is through diet and exercise - basic weight losing routines. You can't spot-reduce like those advertisements for all of those ab machines want you to think. In reality, you will lose fat on your stomach no more quickly by performing crunches than you will doing pull ups or curls.

I'd suggest a strict cardio routine in combination with diet. Try running, HIIT or biking. Anything like that. HIIT involves interval training, for example, jogging for 30 seconds then sprinting for 30 seconds, repeating this for 5-10 minutes or as long as you can. It really burns a lot of fat in a short period of time, and I highly recommend it.

overall weight (fat) loss - if you combine it with weight training you will gain muscle and lose fat
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

You cannot lose fat in any specific area. You must simply reduce your body fat % Doing crunches or sit-ups won't do you any more good than doing push-ups.

Some tips-

Cut out soft drinks (even diet) Drink alot of water

Cut out fried foods

Do cardiovascular workouts.

ALl you need to do is crunches. I know crunches are a pain but do a hundred every night and you will be fine. Also if you drink beer, I would stop or lay off a little. Beer is one of the top contributors to belly fat.

as everyone has said it takes exercise and attention to diet. if you do crunches however it will not get rid of the fat but will tone the muscles underneath. cardio will help burn the fat. the yoga pose 'the plank' and press ups are also great for the abs.
make sure you do it for yourself though and not for your girlfriend!
