find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Curves is good, you might also try a gym that has a women only section. Make sure you drink your water, that is seriously super important. If all you change is excersize, water and making sure you eat 5-6 servings ( a serving is really only like 1/2 a cup, so don't let it freak you out) of fruits and veggies a day, you'll be sure to drop weight! Great job! It looks like your going down the right path!!

Curves? The studies have found that the intensity at Curves is too low to sustain weight loss or increase fitness. Try a regular gym or the Y - or dance at home-
And david b is wrong - being overweight is the cause of low thyroid levels NOT the other way around........
8 dress sizes? 4 TO GO? wow thats 150 pounds?

First things first: feel good about yourself. Be gentle with yourself, remember no one is perfect, not even supermodels.
Exercise is absolutely the key. Cutting back on your fat and calories is also very important, but you've got to get moving. There's only so much you can starve off, and just limiting your food intake isn't all that healthy.
I lost a bunch of weight recently, and I have dieted many, many times before without working out. The experts are right, unfortunately. The exercise was what really worked.
it's hard to get started, especially if you're out of shape. But it will get easier, every time. If you're uncomfortable with how you look, Curves is a great option. Everybody's there to work. Nobody's there to ogle.
I wish you good luck, but remember: feel good about yourself!

Give curves a try. My wife does curves and she loves it.
She's lost a lot of weight, about 26 lbs in the last 5-6 months. She watches what she eats and goes to curves, wishes she did it sooner.

I lost my weight by not eating things that contained sugar, like candy, sugared cereals, or chocolate. Combine that with a little walk around the neighborhood a few times a week and I lost over 8 dress sizes and am four away from my goal! And i did that in a year. ^_^

Bunny's answer is completely wrong. For a height of 5'6", you should weigh no more than 155 (BMI = 25). Go to http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/ and check it out. Go with Curves, if it's a good plan (I'm not familiar with it).

More information needed to set you up with an effective weight loss strategy. Atkins works wonders but requires commitment for life. As I said, more info needed. If you're serious about losing the weight contact me. It's sorta what I do.
