My little one is 17 mths and has wide chubby baby feet, just normal podgy baby feet. Her toe nails however are odd - the big toe nails seem to scoop out and up like a pringles dipper - the skin around the nails is also very hard and rough. The nails are prone to splitting and cracking. The rest of her nails on her feet seem to curl under - almost into the toe itself if left. All her nails hand and feet grow extremely quick - they need cutting every week or so. She is a 1st baby so we are learning on the job! I deal with her toe nails by cutting them quite short - is this the right thing to do? Her shoes are fine they are all Clarks uk properley measured for length and width. Not sure what else I can do?

If you're worried, I would ask the doctor on her next check-up. THey're the ones who can really give you a knowledgeable answer.

At first thought, I was thinking this may be a genetic disorder until you said "the skin around the nails is also very hard". It could be a fungus that grows under the nails causing this. I highly recommend she see a podiatrist to further asses this problem. Medications used to kill fungus under the nails can be very toxic, so don't use any until she sees a doctor.
