--BECAUSE IF THE IDEA in words was not recorded , then how could a picture be worth a thousand words?
--THE SAYING is interesting and true up to a point, but when Jesus as the Greatest teacher that ever was , almost always referred back to the Scriptures in the OT to make his illustration have meaning--THE STATEMENT you quoted would have to be qualified or supported--to be applicable, do you not think?
--AN EXAMPLE the Bible makes reference to the fact that when God promises something THE SUREITY of it coming true is compared to when the right weather patterns are formed, there is no question that it will rain or snow etc & ONCE IT STARTS NOTHING CAN STOP THAT PROCESS!. without question! As this scripture shows:
(Isaiah 55:10-11) 10Â "For just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, 11Â so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it."
--WE COULD paint a picture of it snowing or raining and say this picture is like God's promise!
--WOULD THAT MEAN anything without the detailed words--NO!

There were no photographers around at the time. But in a way, God did use pictures, in that the Hebrew aleph beth is composed of characters which have a pictographic significance. Not as extreme as Egyptian hieroglyphics, but nonetheless real. That's why many words in Hebrew are effectively puns, as the meaning of the word and the meaning of each letter in the word pictographically can make some funny coincidences.
If they are coincidences . . . they may be evidence that God has a fine sense of humor.

Why do you think God chose only words. Have you ever looked at a sunset over a peaceful bay, or the sunrise in the mountains, with the sun glistening over the dew on the hills, or the face of a new baby. God started it all, the pictures and the words.

because people interpret things differently. take for instance the photo of humpty dumpty on a great wall, had a great fall.
if there was no description by the painter of the picture, you did not know the egg was named humpty dumpty, all you saw was a broken egg on the side of the wall. maybe a scrap of material on the ground that represented humptys' necktie.
if you knew nothing of this familiar photo, what would you say? i would probably just see a broken egg, and the wall, the necktie, etc. would not make a bit of sense. i would probably spend alot of time trying to figure out what happened. like did someone smash an egg against this wall? did someone go buy and throw their necktie by the broken egg? who threw the egg and why???
all questions and ideas that would take a whole lot of time to figure out; or worse yet, you'd probably not even care.
thats why he used words. people can make their own interpretations and/or not even give it a second thought.
god created so many good things, he allowed other things to happen. because he knew humans so well, and knew that this would happen, he used words to convey his thoughts and wishes about situations, things, etc.
also, back then, there were'nt alot of highly educated people.
today, there are alot, but educated people tend to busy themselves with their own things, and forget about god and his wishes. sooo, he uses words.

That is how humans communicate. I believe He figured that would work best.
However if you really want to hear God speak quietly to your soul, observe a Rose opening up, Look at the breathtaking beauty of Autumn Leaves, Check out the glorious sunrises and sunsets, or hold a newborn baby!
Seeing these and the multitudes of other beautiful things God made for use to enjoy should bring you to your knees in sweet
adoration and worship of our Heavenly Father!

His words Create a beautiful picture. May we have eyes to see! and ears to hear!
And unlike a picture alone.. His words do something more...
They infuse us with His Life.
In the Beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God..
...In Him was life and the Life was the Light of men....

Which god? Oh, yeah, the christian one... the Palestinians who wrote him weren't very good painters, and could not produce the miracle of 'photos' that would have been sure proof that god gave them something amazing. They had to settle for less than what even the Egyptians had, since they couldn't afford stone and were too small a nation to build anything lasting. Oh well. Enough idiots believed it to keep it going and that's all that matters to christians.

God does use pictures; look around and read these verses...
Romans 1:18-20
18 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, 19 since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. 20 For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (NIV)
...being understood from what has been made.... Like I said look around and then look up.

Because He needed to be specific and relay the same message to all -- that's the Bible. Look out your eyes and you will see the picture He gave us -- He chose words and a living picture.
