I'm 18, 5'7" and 141 lbs. During college, i've built like 10 lbs in muscle working out, running, and salsa dancing all year long. I want to keep muscle but how to get down to 125 lbs by September? Note: I am vegetarian.

How many lbs do I need to lose per week, and is it safe? And how many calories should I be eating to keep dropping? Its hard for people around the 130-150 range to drop, i've noticed....

Thanks for answering!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

What you need to do is cut down (dramatically) on high-calorie foods, such as potato chips, french fries, desserts, etc. If you drink milk, drink low-fat or 2%. If you drink soda, only drink diet. Try not to drink lemonade or iced tea (sweetened). Those drinks are extremely fattening because of the high sugar. If you eat cereal, eat only the healthy kind like Special K. Eat lots of fruits also. All fried foods are rich in fat, so stay away from those. Many snacks are now baked, which is much healthier. If you eat a lot of salad, try not to use much dressing. Even if you are using low-fat, do not use too much, because dressing is just fattening. And of course, exercise as much as you can. Follow a healthy diet, and you will lose weight in no time. However, it is difficult, because food is just so irresistable. Good luck!

Yikes, it is not a question that wil have one definite answer. some athletic people actually can slim down but never reach the weight they want. You really dont have many choices because of your diet. Cutting down on carbs would be perfect solution, but being vegetarian, I would aske the doctor if that would be recommended for you.
