I got an interesting story for you about that.
I had a bitter arguement with a fanatical neighbor because he insisted that I MUST ask God for material things that I want. As proof, he mentiioned the time he prayed for a car, and got it. A member of his church gave it to him as charity. He wouldn't talk to me for almost two years.
So now HE and his wife each have a car. I found out recently, he went of the road and was seriously injured. Give you one guess which car he was driving.

The idea of praying by praising God is not a very good one. Nor is prayer that keeps asking God for favors, especially without bothering to find out what God's opinion of the request in the first place. Correct prayer should include finding out whether God approves our plan for fulfilling a desire before commencing the execution.

hey, it isn't about feeding his ego. look at it like this, if you will:
q: why do you have children?
a: because you want someone to love and take care of , but
q: do you want your kids to be obedient to you? and to learn lessons through learning and abiding by first, your instruction, and then developing self-control?
in order to teach self control to your children, you have to let them make mistakes, but they always come to you when they do wrong, becasue you are their parent, and you are who they answer to. God is the ultimate parent, and we are His children, who run to Him when we know that we have done wrong. the good thing is that He does not condemn and punish us when we tell Him we have done wrong. there is no cosmic spankings or groundings. instead, He allows us to have our own guilt, and the pressure to confess in order to help to form us into more responsible people.
as to the first question, i would say that prayer to a God who is omniscient is simply a form of keeping up the communication. if we go without talking to God, then we are doing things on our own. many people are able to better understand things when they pray, because it gives a sort of clarity that is not as easily experienced when on one's own.
i am glad that you asked this question. i respect your point of veiw, and i hope that i could at least somewhat clearly express my personal point of veiw with you as well. thanks for listening, have a good day.

The first purpose prayer serves is the actual acknowledgement that God is there and you are here.
If you were a Father you'd want to hear from your children too.
Sounds like if you read the scriptures you wouldn't have to ask these questions.

It's not his ego...it's his love. When you are in love with someone...don't you desire that relationship? Communication? Our prayers are our love for God...we turn to him in all things. A relationship takes two way communication.
Prayer changes us. Through prayer we come to understand God's greater plan and that all is for his glory. I pray several times a day for my husband's salvation. This may or may not ever happen because no matter how much I pray...my husband can refuse salvation. But through my prayers and through my desire to lead a holy life, I know my husband receives the grace of God. My prayers and my desire for Christ flow through me to him.

You need to come into a real relationship with the Lord .. then u'd see how very misplaced your question is.
Prayer is " taking to God and God getting to speak something back to you deep in your spirit. "
Man has a body soul and spirit and it is in this sprit that he has fellowship with God...
Its a very personal sweet bond that i wish u'd know of :)
Prayer is to God what tracks are to trains. He limits himself so much and will only work in oneness with us. He IS God and can do so much on His own.. but He chooses to work along with us ..
Prayer brings what is already " done " in the Heaves ONTO the earth... imagine that!
Looses what is already Loosed in Heaven ONTO the earth...
I love this!
HOpe one day u can see the real deep significance of Prayer and not be snide in your remarks about it dear...

No, its actually a very valid question.
In all honesty the main reasons why I pray is because I think it helps myself sometimes.
If I find something is so important to me that I need to pray for it that means that I need to devote more of my own time and energy to make it happen. It also helps sometimes to get things off your chest.

A sign that you love Him, and am willing to humble yourself to pray to Him about your life.
why do we buy are fathers gifts on fathers day? To boost their ego? no, it is to let him know how much we care for him and no matter what happens we love him and he will always be the #1 man in our life.
Same with God, we pray and thank Him so that we can show that we love Him, and the He is the #1 in our lives, and that no matter what happens we will love Him and trust that He is gonna take care of us

God can change his mind, you know. Just like with the flood. God intended to eliminate all man-kind. Had it not been for the prayers of Noah, he and his family would not have been saved.

He likes to hear from us.
You like to hear from your family & friends? Me too.
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
