I am 19 weekes pregnant and a couple of weeks ago i smoked a little bit of pot. No, i'm not proud and i felt really horrible. I've only done it once since i've been pregnant. I have really been stressed out lately. Make a long story short my mother in law and sister inlaw live with us. I'm about to pull my hair out!!! Anyways, i know thats no excuse bu the doc drug screened me the other day and i'm scared to death. I guess i'm just more embarrassed about him knowing and of course the baby. I'm not too much worried about the baby cause i've been to the doc since and everything is fine. What is the worse the doc can do to me??? Please help me i'm stressing out and scared.

Ok, to all that has answered, thanks. The reason why i know he tested that is because he wrote it on the fee slip. But didn't tell me he was doing that. And to some, i'm not a drug addicted and i don't smoke pot all the time. I do have self control.

Take a deep breath, its going to be alright. Just don't do it again. The doctor will probably give you a lecture though. Just grin and bare. Second, i know what its like to live with family, and here is what i reccomend. 1) Go for walks, excercise makes endorphins, endorphins make you happy and help you deal with stress. 2) Wear some headphones and go somewhere where you can lock the door and listen to some soft music, like something that sounds like the ocean. 3) Put your favorite scent in your room, one thing that is good is scent therapy, you can smell scents that remind you of good things in the past, or you can smell scents that you can think of a happy place it reminds you of and smell it whenever you need to be at that happy place. 3) go out and go baby shopping, or window baby shopping alone. It will help you think of your baby and that will make you happy. 4) go somewhere where you can pet animals, petting animals helps us to feel better. They are naturally man's best friend, so go spend some time with one, you'll make them feel good too. 5) whether your good at it or not, sing, sing with all of your heart, it will help you feel good, breath better, get more oxygen to that baby, and get your feelings out! I do all of those things and it help, so i hope something will atleast help you. Dont obsess about smoking pot, you did it once, your not going to do it again, now dont think dwell on it and make yourself feel bad. Good luck!

I don't understand why the doctor would drug test you unless he has suspension of you using. Now if it does show up in my state they will and have charged the woman with child abuse. If social services are called and the doctor has the right to do this. They have to report all and any known abuse to social services. They can take the child at birth and this has also happened. Then if it is turned over to the county attorney they can decide to charge you.

Start going to NA and get yourself on the right path it will look to a judge if you get charged. But the doctor may talk to you and give you some options of things you can do if another drug test is requested.

If the lab uses a gas chromatography they can also determine the amount of THC or other drug including alcohol with precise accuracy. They will know if this was a one time thing or a problem.

Good luck and stay off the pot when your pregnant.

Okay....first of all....why would the doctor be doing a drug screen? I have had three pregnancies and never had that done....

I wouldn't worry at this point that the pot did any harm---however I would NEVER suggest someone do that. It is time for you to grow up and start putting this baby's needs before your own. You can start with being HONEST with your doctor....at the next visit---I would simply tell them that you are concerned, that you did this once last month and you intend not to do it again but your worried.

The doctors dont do anything to anyone that is upfront and honest with them. Do you really think this is the first time a doctor has heard or seen this?

The worst they can do is get Child protection services involved. Likely he will ask you and you should be honest. Why did you smoke in the first place? Really its no different than women who smoke cigarettes during pregnancy. But still cutting of oxygen to the baby isnt good and they cant tell if there have been any long term effects by a dr apt or ultra sound. Hopefully all will be fine. Good luck

Don't overstress about it, that will only cause complications. Doctors here prefer marijuana over cigarettes while pregnant. No, they don't recommend to do it, but they say it's better. Anyways, when I was pregnant, I could NOT eat and I was losing more weight than what I was gaining. When I smoked I could eat, which of course was better than NOT eating. It actually helped me through my pregnancy, of course after I got over my morning sickness, I quit for the remainder of it. Don't be scared, the doctor can't do anything but tell you not to do it and give you a lecture, at least your not puffing down 2 packs of cigarettes a day! This one girl I knew, smoked like 2 packs a day and even predicted when she was going to have her premature baby. Now that is in the wrong, don't you agree?

Why would the doctor drug screen you? Usually they have you pee in a cup at each visit to check your protien levels and such, weird.

Hope this helps calm you down a bit, good luck dear, and remember DON'T stress about it!

Smoking pot even once a month while you're pregnant won't even harm the baby (believe me), I did and my baby is as beautiful and smart as I would want him to be. That's weird that the doc drug tested you, all he can really do is say not to do it again. I listened to a lot of Jack Johnson while I was pregnant, maybe it's just me, but his music is so soothing it always let me relax and put me in a good mood. Good Luck and Congrats! P.S. NO ONE will take your baby because you smoke a bowl here and there!!! Only if you have large amounts, you are selling, or you are putting the baby directly in harms way (and you get caught).

I do believe you will be fine, but just stop where you are at and don't do it again. As soon as the baby comes out and you go home, find your mother-in-law to babysit and get drunk!! ha.
No, really I drank a lot before I knew I was pregnant and smoked a little and my baby turned out fine, but after I knew I was pregnant I stopped all drinking and smoking and waited until after it was all done and had a very good couple of parties.
Congratulations to you, but just wait a few more months to really party hard!!!
cheers!

I think as long as you stay clean they will not do anything. When you have to baby they will do a drug test on the baby and if it comes back with anything then they can take the baby. If you talk with your doc. and tell him or her that you did it one time then he might help you find other ways to deal with stress. I know i would be a mess if i had my mother in law living with me.

It's true about the patient & dr confidentiality but in this case you are putting another life in danger, the doctor can give heads up to social services and when you give birth can withhold ur child from you until you have been tested again and so forth. I know with a couple of incidents they have done that to women who are using drugs....just be careful, I'd talk to the doc about it.

first of all you should have told the doc about it in the first place, they can take your baby away. now don't freak out I doubt it thats going to happen. Just try to calm down, and at your next visit you need to tell your doctor what and why you did it.
