Changing your diet is the first step. Eat smaller portions, and high fiber foods like oatmeal and whole wheat. Also, riding your bike for long distances or for at least an hour straight would be a good start on building endurance and muscle strenght in the legs. Then when your stamina is up, try going running and that is the best and most intense workout I think. Don't forget to drink lots of water to stay hydrated!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

I am a fitness instructor i would suggest that your partner joins a weight loss club and books himself into a gym for an induction, they will then be able to write out a fitness programme for him to follow for weight loss. I would suggest cardio workouts. I f he does not like the gym try circuit classes even going out together for a bike ride, walk, jog do things together as you can keep his motivation going. Good luck!

the fastest way is to starve yourself, exercise and drink very little liquids. if you don't want to go that route then eat less, drink alot of water and exercise alot!!
