Well said. I keep a quote posted at my desk that you might like:

"Let us cultivate love and compassion, both of which give true meaning to life. This is the religion I preach, more so than Buddhism itself. It is simple. Its temple is the heart. It's teaching is love and compassion. It's moral values are loving and respecting others, whoever they may be.

"To be kind, honest and have positive thoughts; to forgive those who harm us and treat everyone as a friend; to help those who are suffering and never to consider ourselves superior to anyone else: even if this advice seems rather simplistic, make the effort of seeing whether by following it you can find greater happiness."

Yes, I've known that for years. Isn't it a funny thing, that so many different cultures across the world can come to the same basic beleifs on how to live a peaceful life? Where did this truth come from, if it was not learned from each other? I beleive that the truth lies within us all. There is a higher part of our being that knows all the answers, and throughout history, through every beleif, there have been people who have been able to come into contact with that higher self. It is possible for all of us to do that. I beleive that is where the human race is supposed to go, to evolve to that state of being, like these certain teachers have.

If God revealed truth in one culture only, there would no doubt be many people who could not accept the things that could help them develop spiritually... ie Would a loving God really be "all or nothing"? Or would he let us evolve as much or as little as we could? I think he would give us as much enlightenment as he could, because light has a tendancy to illuminate the path before us, and then we can see those things that we formerly thought were darkness.

Someone said John Paull III said we should start discussions on the basis of common ground (ie for the purpose of bringing people into the fold).

I started my exploration of religion with that in mind - to become more effective in sharing the Gospel with other people. The funny thing is, the more I have tried to find that common ground, the more I've realised how much I didn't know, and how much I could learn from all these other religions... truths revealed by God to man, before Joseph Smith came along.

I am a committed member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The explicit doctrines of the Church only include that which was previously lost or obscured in some way.... but we are encouraged to find truth, by using that inner guide, the Holy Spirit, to determine truth from every source.

There is so much truth in the world, contained in all the religions (and sciences) of earth, which we can all learn from. I love the easiness of finding those truths that has come about through the Internet! We listen to our hearts.... the filter through which we can sift this huge deluge of information... like someone panning for gold.... the little shiny particles are left on the filter of our hearts.

God bless everyone for sharing and learning the truth!

I agree with you whole heartedly...but as was said before it will only fall on deaf ears. Just look at some of the answers. People are so full of hatred towards others. Hate is something this world could do without. What the world truly needs is love and we are the only ones that can change that.

I do agree with this, whole heartedly. I have no problem with anyone from any other religion. I treat them with respect and hope that they give me the same. However, too many still see Paganism as evil. It is really sad.
There are some who will agree with you, and those will be more evolved, more enlightened. Those who disagree with you are less evolved, unenlightened. There will be plenty of those.
This is a good, thought provoking question. It really would be nice if everyone would focus on the things we have in common, instead of the things we differ on.
Star for you.

The less evolved people do not see what you are trying to say. They cannot understand it. Perhaps they will not ever understand in this lifetime. It has a lot to do with the level of intellectual development and that is before the spiritual aspect is addressed.

Actually we are very different in what we believe and whether or not we will go to hell, but we are all human beings and should not be unkind to each other just because we believe in something different.
