First off, why is this an issue for you? Are you stating that where you live there are more Mexicans than any other nationality? Are you in America? Because if they are enrolled in school then chances are that they are Americans of Mexican descent. How can you be so sure that they are not Honduran or Panamanian? Mexican is not a race. Now as far as tests, this wouldn't be the first time people have talked about changing tests for different ethnicities or races. Not to long ago the NAACP was complaining that the S.A.T. was biased and that blacks couldn't perform well because the test was aimed towards white upper-middle class Americans. The complainers will allows find someone else to blame there problems on. Currently it is the Mexicans, before that is was blacks, before that Is was the Italians and before that is was the Irish. Chances are if you are an American your family came from another country. There are so few Native People left. Instead of blaming and name calling why don't we as a society try and figure out WHY they are having problems and why they have such a drop out rate.
Have you ever been to Mexico, and I am not talking about TJ or any of the other resort towns? Culture shock can be a very big problem. Let us not forget the problems that are caused by our culture of violence, gangs, and drugs. Now It is mainly those of the lower classes that are most subjected to are problems and live with them daily. In closing, you asked what will they be contributing? I say what have we done for them?

Anyone, black, white, mexican or whatever, who cannot pass the test is probably going to go on to poverty. But just because someone is poor and dropped out of high school does not necessarily mean they will contribute nothing to society. There are many examples of people who started out that way and worked hard to overcome those conditions and became leaders and role models. But that takes hard work and dedication and human nature tells you that everyone, no matter what race they are, is not going to do the work to get there. Somebody has to be the assistant manager at McDonalds.

Kind of annoying how the government will provide a standarized test and then they come out with a dumb downed version just to make sure people can pass it. Anyways it is not just Mexican students that are having trouble, a lot of minorities and people who come from impoverished families have trouble with literacy and basic education. This is more of an economic problem that probably means more money needs to be funded to lower education. Also we need better and more competent teachers to be teaching classes. My last 2 years of high school was a blow off because half my teachers werent even teaching the class.

Bush and the Repubs want the illegal aliens to do the jobs that Americans won't do, although there really are not that many, and the DEms want the illegals to vote for them. The Repubs want a permanent underclass to do the dirty jobs, so they don't care that most of the illegals he plans to put on a path to citizenship, cannot pass high school. They don't need a diploma to work in a fast food joint or pick crops!

Question: what is the drop out rate of white kids that live below the poverty level? I'm willing to bet it is about the same as what the Mexican students are at. It is in most places in the country. So is the problem that they are Mexican? Or is the problem that they are at an unfair advantage due to their environment and economic status? The statistics suggest that their being Mexican has little to do with it, apart from the fact that Mexicans don't have what the rest of us do in resources and support.

First of all, Mexicans are not a majority. Hispanics are. This includes people from any of the forty countries in what you guys call "South of the Border." I am a Guatemalan who proudly got honors in High School and aiming for a degree in Computer Engineering. Therefore, hopefully I don't fall under your ignorant generalization.

I hear 1 out of 3 Americans CHEAT on their College exams...SO WHAT ARE THEY CONTRIBUTING???
It doesn't take a HS diploma to get a good paying job! I know from experience. I've worked with so many college grads who don't know how to wipe their own asses hahaha... what are they contributing now? nothing but living off of daddy's money and bitching about how they cheated their way through college AND HOW THEY NEED A BETTER PAYING JOB!!I've learned how to hire people who want to work and have good work ethics. And some of them lack HSD.
