Xerxes is referred to as male because in fact he WAS male. He was a Persian King.

Of course God/Allah/Jehovah etc is neither male or female, so "he" or "him" are used as these are "inclusive" terms, whereas "she" or "her" would imply that he is female.

Jews do not actually believe that Adonai HaSh-m the living G-d of Israel, may He be blessed- is male or female!!!! The terms He and Him and Father etc are linguistic conventions imposed by the inadequacies of human language, showing all the more that we cannot comprehend that which is incomprehensible! This idea of G-d being an old Jewish guy with a beard is unfortunately a function of an immature or uninformed mind and a form of idolatry!
Shalom

I can't answer about Allah or Xerxes but the God of Christianity is definitely male because he is the father and the son. You can't have a female father or son. That is why God is always referred to as male. And Jesus was male, and Jesus is God.

This is mainly to do with when the Culture when the Religious book were written, most were written hundreds if not thousands of years ago. The cultures in those days was often one of male superiority, the writers were therefore often male and in there eyes women were inferior and God could therefore not be female

As far as Islam is concerned, we do not attribute anything that is human to God, because God is a creator of forms thus is his free from anything that he has made.

When we use the masculine singular noun all we mean is that's the default and its not reflective of himself. In the Quran, God refers himself using the plural pronoun which is of neither gender but reflects magnificence, like the royal we.

1) God refers to the male form of a monotheistic deity. if this deity were female, it would be "Goddess".

2) God is described as neuter gender: having certain dominant characteristics and qualities to portray one's self as a specific gender, but not having any genitalia; God is Fatherly, masculin, etc but has no genitals; God also has the capability to 'beget', but as this is not like organic conception, He is not a mother and doesn't consider Himself to be.

3) HIV/AIDS is pretty big too.

There is no god but One God. He is like none and none like Him. When we refer to Allaah by saying He, it means nothing to what a mind like you or anyone else to perceive to be. We are given Attributes and Names of Allaah. Allaah is neither male or female.

Many religions have both a male and female God figure. Some even have many of both sexes. I feel that 'God' is both male and female.

Man held the power when he (not she) created the Gods. All religions have been unfair to women. It's the UGLIEST kind of SEXISM, pure and simple.

“To no form of religion is woman indebted for one impulse of freedom.” -- Susan B Anthony

“Every injustice that has ever been fastened upon women in a Christian country has been "authorized by the Bible" and riveted and perpetuated by the pulpit.” -- Helen H Gardener

“The religious persecution of women has been done under what was claimed to be the command of God.” -- Susan B Anthony
