Since Religion IS mythology, why does Yahoo separate them? No religion has any concrete proof of its claims. Be it Mithraens, Hindu, Christ-ians, Mohammedans, Jews... isn't it ALL Myth?

The really funny thing is that neither 'mythology' nor 'cult' is necessarily pejorative. So you could merge the two, call it 'Mythology and Cults', and have it be accurate.

Hey Bob, Well lets go over some basics...

there not the same. and no they are not all myths. when you check a dictionary for relgion you get...

1. a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, esp. when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.
2. a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.
3. the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.

So basicly Religion is a way of life agreed on by many people that is surrounded by a set of beliefs.

now lets look at myth....

1. stories or matter of this kind: realm of myth.
2. any invented story, idea, or concept: His account of the event is pure myth.
3. an imaginary or fictitious thing or person.

so a myth is a story, or invented idea which is normally Imaginary.

The bible for example, is not all fictitious, invented or a story as there are many factual events in it.
There are some things that have yet to be proven true. but as it stands they have yet to be proven false also.

There for sence religion's way of life has yet to be proven false, and are full of truths they are in no way related to a myth.

ergo yahoo seperates them

Until recently, America's long tradition of religious toleration protected religion from any serious criticism. Polite people didn't even discuss religion in public because it was considered too divisive. Then the religious right sold their votes to the Republican party in exchange for using Federal law to force Christian superstition into America's court rooms, class rooms, research laboratories, and the White House. As a result of the religious right's breach of faith with the American people, it is now open-season for serious religious criticism. As you correctly point out, religion IS mythology and deserves no preferential place in neither Y! Answers nor in any modern forward-looking civilization. It's time the evils of Christian bigotry were expunged from our American culture.

Good question! Yahoo is an American company, and America is a fundamentalist country, like Iraq. So they have a vested interest in religion not being undermined by yahoos on the internet trying to bring logic into a discussion about aspects of our belief systems and their pedagogy.

NO, it's not all myth.., not the Bible or those who have a born-again experience.
It's hard to talk to people who have their mind messed up and who can't see beyond "proof" in the physical.
Prove you have a brain.., have you ever seen it?
Prove to me your Momma or Dad loved you or wanted you.
Prove to me you even exist. Same with proving God!

Because "myth" refers to stories that no one believes, and lots of people believe in God. Religion may be a myth to you, but to lots of people it is real.

Out of deference to the troglodytes who still believe in the "literal truth" of certain varieties of mythology.

I wish I had a nickle for every time this question has been posed. They do it as not to offend the believers, of course.
