I have always thought that the most defensive people are the ones who aren't sure of themselves. That applies in all aspects of life.

How dare you? I don't go on the defensive! I've never been defensive in my life, this is discrimination! God will punish you you bad bad bad girl.
I'm a Methodist - and ok it may be a little eccentric, but I do have a sense of humour :-)
And actually I quite like questions that are seeming to bait Christians into a wound up response, because what on earth is the point in having a faith if you don't have new points to think on? That's not faith, it's being a robot. I liked to be challenged, it is what keeps my faith current and relevent.

Because deep, deep down, they're terrified that they might be wrong. And the idea of a godless, empty, random universe in which you are simply an insignificant vessel for transporting genetic material around is a pretty frightening concept if you've been brought up to believe in a system of celestial justice. A rational mind is open to new ideas, new information and challenges. An irrational mind is not.

Let's just say that with so much belief and so little (if any) evidence, there are a lot of folks here standing on a spiritual sheet of ice that's a mile wide and only a fraction of an inch deep.

Actually we are the most tolerant. Liberals preach tolerance however they are the most hate mongering people around.
Children like you (non conservative) have low morals and don't care, so everything seems crazy for you. You don't have any ethical base.
Look in the mirror- If I say Pro-Life, Pro- God, Pro country- you probably think I'm a lunatic for believing this. I also know that I could articulate my points better then most liberals.
So who's really angry- people who have an ethical base, or ignorant, confused people?

It all has to do with Balance. If your claims are so shaky that it is like standing on top of a 2"x4" on end eight feet above the ground, you do NOT want anybody making waves or shaking your perch. If they do, you MUST get very defensive!

They do seem very sensitive and overly defencive. I've found that too and not just on yahoo. I would of thought that if they were sound in their beliefs they wouldn't get so easily wound up. BUT there is a trait that seems to go hand in hand with being religious and that is they JUST CAN'T HELP THEMSELVES!!! THEY HAVE TO SHOVE THEIR BELIEFS DOWN OUR THROATS!! They say they pity us..they feel sorry for us..THEY are soooo condescending, patronising and arrogant.

The defensiveness could arise out of this "religion" section being overrun with self-proclaimed omniscient atheists who have nothing better to do. I am sure they could swap the word atheist and say the same of us. No bother, we're all inherently evil and wretched to boot!

We have better springs and wind up keys.
Because other places are about how to do things or advise this place deals with peoples deep seated beliefs. There is bound to be arguements.
