The old Filmore East on Second Avenue in the East Village in NYC held about 2500. They tore down that mecca of 60s rock n' roll about 35 years ago. I would guess the Filmore West in San Francisco held about the same. Some of the acts at the Filmore East were Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Doors at many others.
