We are marrying in February, & plan to send out invitations by August to allow potential guests to make arrangements if they'd like to attend. I can't seem to find anything showing what is apporpriate info to include...travel info (hotel & flight & car rental info), RSVP, save the date (for our reception once we return home) and the basic when and where info...anything else? We want to include everything that's necessary, but not send a book either.
Thanks for any ideas!

" You needn’t add anything special to your destination-wedding invitations, but you should mail them much sooner than you would for typical wedding invitations – at least four months prior to the wedding. You should also strongly consider sending Save-the-Date cards or emails in advance of the wedding invitations so that guests can arrange their schedules accordingly (and perhaps make a vacation out of their trip). If your destination is a popular vacation spot, you should definitely get in touch with guests early on.
Additional information such as guest lodging, travel information, etc., can be mailed separately to those who send positive response cards; don’t try to stuff it all into your wedding invitations. Posting such information on your personal Wedding Website is ideal, and will speed the process for your guests – they can book travel and hotel accommodations right online."

Send out the save the date cards after the first of the year. You can choose to include the hotel information if you want, but there is no need to. People don't need to book hotels and flights that far in advance. The actual invitations should be sent out 6-8 weeks before the actual wedding so that there is a reminder close to the date. Include an insert card that gives the name of the hotel, and that a block of rooms has been reserved for the 3 nights, but also a smaller block of rooms for the 7 nights. Include the discount code, you should be getting a discount at any hotel for booking a block of rooms. Some will even throw in the bridal suite for free if enough rooms get booked because of your wedding. The hotels won't charge a deposit on your credit card just for the block booking. When your guests book their own rooms, they pay for it, not you. Then a week or so before the wedding (when you've gotten all of your RSVPs) call and cancel any additional rooms. There is no need for any costs to be paid just yet. If the hotel is charging you, then you need to find a better hotel. Most just hold a credit card number until the actual night(s).

Def. provide the hotel information and maybe some information about the area that surrounds it. Possibly provide a list of websites so people can check stuff out on their own. For example, websites to the place you are getting married, the hotel. It is nice to provide flight information and car rental but I don't think it is necessary. Most people know how to make travel arrangements. Include the rsvp and save the dates like you mentioned. You might also want to include a small map of the area where you are getting married (actually this type of stuff might be better to put in welcome bags for when people get to the hotel, list of things for them to do in down time, etc.)

I would send out save the date cards with all of the necessary detail, indicate that invitations will follow. Give lists of hotels in the area with a wide price range for your guests, and maybe detail on what airport to fly to. Indicate if they will need a rental car, or how airport transportation will work. This will give people more time to shop around for rates too.

What my fiance and I are doing is making a nice invitation and then have an insert with hotel information, airport information, rental information, our email address, our knot page, etc.
