I want to be an intercessory prayer , and grow stronger in Christ Jesus. How do I develop a closer relationship if the Bible seems boring or like a chore, I don't like that I feel like that. I can be into it after church but through the week I rob God of his time...

So I'm trying to make it fun by trying to meet other Christian gals who share my belief.

What else do you propose?

Thank You for all who reply who truly want to help!!!!
God Bless YOU for taking time out to answer!

As a christian every thing we do everything we say id a prayer to God. Prayer isn't a time for you to be asking for anything. Not yet anyway. It is God gift to you to conform you into image of Christ. Don't worry if you have nothing to say sometimes it's best to be still and listen. And if the world comes in and takes your thoughts away to other matters don't start feeling like a failure. The Apostles feel asleep when The Lord asked them to watch and pray. In your reading read as long as you feel edified the stop if that 2 verses, stop. There is no rule saying you must do this or that to make God love you, He just does. Be happy and content with what you can do not what you think you should do. Jim

First off pray about this. If you feel reading the Bible is a chore try and find the Bible on CD. Try www.thebiblesource.com. I would recommend finding one that is dramatized with character voices. Or try a different version of the Bible.

As for the prayer part I would find a time every day when you can be alone and not disturbed.

Thirdly, it is good to have Christian friends to discuss Christian topics with.

In Jesus Name

I sympathize with you in this as it is a very common experience and one I have fought with at times myself.
I think that part of the problem is this feelgood factor that we sometimes crave and prayer really does not mean this,God deserves our praise and worship for no other reason than He is Creator and is so lovable, if we can switch off from what we expect to get from prayer and concentrate on praising and thanking God then we are in a good place.
Prayer can and does at times become dry and when it does it is like pulling teeth to say even a few prayers but again there is a real reason for this.
We sometimes lack self love in the way that as Gods children should, He made us and loved us enough to give His only Son for our salvation and so we must live in this awesome dignity as heirs to the Kingdom of Heaven.
To begin a time of prayer it is good to settle our inner being and come to complete rest shutting out the noise of the world,
and taking a few moments to realize and really believe the truth that God loves me and I love Him, and so I want to talk with my loving God as I would to my best friend.
Again at dry times of prayer it can also be helpful to pray with others in a small select group and intermix vocal prayer with some songs of praise.
I n the end though it takes effort to begin and direct the will towards God but it is a proven fact that perseverence is the key.

God bless you and open your eyes to your unique place in God`s love and plan.

Well, really, its not suposed to be like a chore. As regarding to the Bible, trust me if it seems boring than youre not doing it right. Its a very very rich and beautiful book. Have you tried reading it all? Start with the new testament (there are some REALLY boring parts in the old one, especially if you have a catholic Bible in your hands (no offense catholics its just that some apocriff [agh, i don't know the right word] books are quite boring).

Praying also is not just wasting your time, its talking to God, tell him about your day, thank him for it, it dosen't have to last 30 minutes, but its usually a very fulfilling experience when done from the heart

I think you would need to read your Bible more and become closer to God through His words.
Once at church the pastor asked us all who would promise to pray for 2 hours a day, 1 hour or 30 minutes. I agreed to 30 min. thinking it would be easy and soon learned it wasn't. Then in one of my prayer groups a woman said she writes down everyone and everything she wants to pray for and it has helped her. I tried it and it does help. I don't think it takes away the importance of the prayer to go over a list if you pray earnestly. I hope this may help you. God bless!

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. If you want to be a "intercessory prayer warrior" then you must make it a point to pray. Sacrifice a specific time to pray and ask the Holy Spirit to help you. If your still having problems - inquire from you pastor to give you a guide line on how to pray. Pray is simply talking to God and you listening in spirit to his response to you. Also, read Matthew 6:5-15

Blessings! From my own experience, the first step is realizing that it's ALL God's time - everything you are or have belongs to Him. Once you get past this, prayer and tithing (of time, talent or $$) gets much easier. For me, prayer also came slowly. I've come to a place now where anytime that's quiet is time to visit with God. And just as when visiting with a friend, sometimes He has more to say than I do... and I just listen. Intercession sometimes leads to Him sending ME to be His hands and feet. I hope that makes sense. Feel free to e-mail me if you want. <

You have to understand that god knows all about how you feel. He may not love you more just because you try to do something you really dont feel like doing. He can see right throuhg the fake prayers. Maybe you should stop trying to show how much you can force yourself and just be youself. He will understand. He has been doing this God thing for a while now.

I felt the same way when i first became a christian i wanted to become closer to god and be stronger in my prayers so i started asking god to give me a desire and a hunger to read his word and also in my prayer life if you truly want to become an intercessor then ask god and believe by faith that you are.

I suggest you read "Prayer" by Philip Yancey. He begins by admitting his problems with prayer - not only is it difficult, but it seems pointless and confusing.

Bit by bit, he unravels the mystery and gets down to why prayer is important. As you begin to understand prayer (it should never be a grocery list of items to ask God), you become motivated.

Yancey is an awesome author and this book is excellent.

God bless!
