Now, just suppose in those two years, a treatment was developed? They have done lung transplants, what if that became a possibility for him? Now he's two years behind everyone else. And if he live longer then two years? It's known to happen now with CF.

At some point, yes he should be allowed to do what he wants, but that point isn't here yet.

I think that it's ultimately up to the parents and the child to decide what they think is best. Maybe it's a social issue, too. I'm sure no kid wants to be excluded from having some semblance of a life due to illness. I realize what he can be allowed to do would have to be limited, but if he wants to continue school, he should for as long as he can. If he doesn't, then the parents should pull him out. I personally would do whatever would make things easiest on the child.

If death is going to occur soon it should be up to the kid.

Did you know that some people with CF live into their 40's now? That gives them time to pusue a meaningful career or any other interest they may have.

You never for sure know what the future will bring--even with illness. I think he should go to school. He's with friends there and it's the normal thing that kids his age do.

I think a sense of normalcy is best. That leaves plenty of time to do things that are fun. I've had experience with this with a family member, and keeping life fairly normal is best, I think.

We had a fimaly friend who wasnt suppoed to live past being a toddler (he was born a long time ago) he had CF and liveed well into his thirties. If you are wnating to experience life, sint school part of life?

He graduated held a job, took care of himself. Interesting how some people choose to live their lives to the fullest

Whatever makes him happy. What do doctors know, they tell some people "Oh, you have this much time left" and they live 3 times longer that what was originally predicted.

Maybe going to school makes him happy. Maybe the parents want to give him as normal of a life as possible without trying to make every nanosecond "special". that just puts a lot a pressure on a kid, hyper-aware of his impending demise.

He should not be required to sit in a classroom. Perhaps one of his parents should be with him and homeschool.
Why waste what little time he has left being away from home with sickly kids?

I think if he is well enough and feels up to it, then he should go. If this were one of my children, I would ask him/her what they wanted to do. And I would do everything possible to make there time left , happy times.
I'm sorry about your cousin. My sympathy goes out to you and your family.
