It wouldn't surprise me in the least. It's silly to think that in the entire vastness of the whole universe that we are the ONLY intelligent beings.

Judging from history, religions will have no choice but to incorporate it into their theologies. The Earth was the center of the universe because where else would God put his children, right? When scientist proved otherwise, the Roman Catholic church changed this position. It can take many years, but the Judio-Christian religions typically incorporate scientific knowledge into their dogma. I think I read somewhere that the Vatican has even accepted the concept of evolution as a mechanism by which God created the Earth.

So, will the discovery of life on other worlds shake down the walls of churches. I doubt it. Especially if it's not intelligent life. If it's bacteria or plants or whatever, they won't miss a beat in claiming the new life as part of God's glorious creation. If there's intelligent beings out there whom God never got around to revealing himself to by way of the Bible or whatever, that might be a thornier one for them to deal with.

there will one day be life on other planets but not human life forms right now. The universe is full of spirit persons from God to Jesus to the other angels. When he put humans here the Devil noticed the daughters of men that they were good looking and went taking ones to live with. Genesis 6 and jude 6 The angels forsook their positions in heaven to come to earth and live with these women.
If he had of put people on other planets they would have noticed them before. When the issue of Universal sovernity is solved and the devil is gone then mankind lives in peace on this earth then we will go and people other planets.
We are only the beginning of physical life forms. Before us was nothing but spirit persons.

As a Christian, I guess the biggest fear I have as to the outcome of Christian religions encountering alien worlds is that some will deem it neccessarry to point out that earth was the only planet where God made man in HIS image.....and therefore, we must be more blessed/loved than they are...and therefore, humans have more right to all alien worlds than those whom live upon them!

LOL as to Satan and his followers "lusts" it didn't seem to matter WHAT life-form they were with, human daughters just were more "comely" and more "taboo" then those from other worlds! LOLOLOL

Those that believe life was brought here by aliens, and the God was a UFO will be happy.

Those who believe that life is limited to earth will have to find a way to get around the teaching.

Those who have no stand on the issue will not be affected.

Besides humans, there are other animals on earth. that doesn't affect most religions anyway. similarly, besides earth, there could be other planets with life, harboring many new species of creatures. *shrugs* i don't see how this would affect most religions either. if we can be content with the fact that we're not the only creatures on earth, we can also be content with the possible discovery that we're not the only living beings in the universe. Most religions will simply say "God created them too."

Why would it affect them at all?

To my knowledge, no major religion holds as a tenet of faith that Earth is the only planet with life-forms.

However, you're being a trifle optimistic, IMHO: I'd change that "when" to "if" if I were you. They've now found hundreds of extra-solar planets and not one of them would support life as we know it; they're almost all extremely hot, close-to-their-primary-star gas giants ("hot Jupiters).

God didn't say if there is other planets with life on them or not . So I don't see that it would affect any one's religion .

For Catholic/Christianity it won't. God created the Heavens and the Earth. Knowledge of extracterrestrial life doesn't benefit one on there path to salvation.

Most religions won't be affected, a very few will disappear, and a few will say the aliens are the children of Satan sent to deceive us.
