I would check the expiration date on the outside of the jar. If it was homemade and canned for you, I'd think it would be only good for about 4 months.

The jar should have an expiration date on it. Find it, and you'll have your answer. When in doubt, however, don't take a chance... although it is likely fine. Better safe than sorry.

As long as you hear the seal pop when you open it, it should be fine.
To be extra careful, heat the sauce to 160 degrees before you eat it - bring to a simmer in a pan and stir well to make sure it's heated thoroughly.

The validity date usually guides you. But one can use it even if it's a month over. How about making it yourself? It's easy. I have the recipe.
