It's an excellent book for two types of people:

1. Any Christian who would like to explore why they believe what they believe.

2. Those who believe Christianity cannot be intellectually sound.

"Mere Christianity" is by no means a perfect book and contains some errors in logic and reasoning. But it does provide an intellectual and logical basis for many ideas in Christianity. Its a great book to read, especially for Christians.

I have an atheist friend whom I gave a copy to several years ago when he believed in God. He is planning on reading it this summer, so I'll let you know what his atheist point of view is, if I remember.

My cousin gave it to me in hopes it would convert me. It was a very good read and I learned a lot about Christianity, but some of the big questions he attempted to answer were pretty unsatisfying. I think that's where faith is supposed to come in, and probably the same place where the separatation between believers and non-believers takes place.

Yes. As with many of his books, he is excellent in describing issues and laying out arguments.

Whether his reasoning is so good that everyone should agree with him is much less certain.
But I would say at least 90% of Christians and non-Christians would be better informed and clearer on *why* they hold their beliefs after working through what he believes and why.

I have, and it's very entertaining. I think the exploration of the meaning of "Christianity" is quite thorough. Mr. Lewis engages in some rather shoddy logic however.

I read it a couple of times back when I was a Christian. I like Lewis, his books actually got me into reading. That one was a bit of a bear though, its a thinker and not a quick read.

I like the book. There are some flaws in his reasoning, but a good book.

I also like 'The Problem of Pain' and 'Miracles'. Still his arguments are more preaching to the choir in my view, but I'm in the choir.

That's a book by C.S. Lewis right? My dad has read it and loves it. I have yet to read it.

I didn't like it. Then again, I'm not a Christian. Go figure.
