There's alot of imformation you can look into on the net under hypothyroidism. I have it too. Once you start your medication and are stabalized as to the dosage you need to be on, alot of things are going to get better with you. Weight, I'm not sure, but you will stop gaining, you might loose, how much I don't know, all depends on what and how much you eat just generally. I know that with hypothyroidism your body has drastically slowed down thats why with this you put on weight because your body isn't processing it out of you properly and you hang onto every little calorie. Did you used to sleep alot, always sluggish feeling and tired, wake up and still feel tired. It's awfull isn't it. But its great you got in and are now on medication. Not sure about the hair falling out, taking the medication may stop it and it may come back in. If you have a problem with your hair still falling out tell the doctor if you aren't already seeing a thyroid specialist..(endocrinologist) and ask them if they will refer you to one. You don't want to fool around too long with the hair fallin out. But you have to give the medication time. And if along the way you hear something like oh, hypothyroidism your going to have a terrilbe time getting off the weight. Not true don't believe it. As soon as you started taking your medication that stopped, eventually when you get the right dosage level for you the medication you take is going to replace what your body hasn't been doing. Loosing weight before you had been diagnosed was when your body wants to put it on and it is very hard if not impossible to loose weight then.
Read up on it....be careful what you read and believe about different sites.......You'll be fine. I was a little freaked out about it too when I found out....but I'm fine with it now....and yes I weighed at one time 70 more pounds then you do right now and I lost it. Eventually I'd like to loose another 60 but I got unmotivated. I will hopefully sometime soon.

I have been dealing with the same thing. I started synthroid about 5 years ago and it has really helped. My hair has grown back, my circulation is better, my skin is not as dry as it use to be and I have had an easier time losing weight. You have to eat healthy and exercise to lost weight. You can't just rely on the medication. It takes twice as long to get the weight off as it was to put it on. I have struggled for many years but you are young which helps. I have been taking organic fish oil and that really sped up my hair growth. If you are not allergic you might want to try that.

The meds will help your hair. I have hypothyroidism too. It has caused me to gain 30 pounds. Unfortunately, the meds have not helped me to lose weight.

After you get on meds - levothyroxine or synthroid - you should have blood tests done periodically to get the right dosage. It will change, but it will be gradual - may take a few weeks to feel better and a few monthsto get back on track.
Good luck!

Yep! Rejoice. You will start to feel better in a few weeks, and your hair will definitely stop falling out.

It should help your hair not to fall out and should speed up your metabolism as well.
