Are you asking for the definition of benchmarking? it is not a technincal term, but rather a management term. Bench marking something is when you determine a study a process and record a certain aspect of it. For example you might look at a manufacturing process and record that with all machines operating for a ful work day you get 1000 units. Then you later compare your production at a later date to your benchmark, and you see how losing one machine, or one hour or something other factor effects your production.

Whatever u build u tie it down on the bench and test it for hours and take all kinds of measurements to establish it's parameters.
