I'm making tomato soup (canned), and I was going to add some small noodles into the soup. Do I have to boil the pasta in water, before I add it to the soup? Or can I just add it to the soup, and let it boil that way?

If the pasta is fresh, no. But, if your taking the pasta from a box, I would boil it for several minutes in water, drain and then add to your soup.

Throw the pasta in the soup and let it boil that way. The pasta will absorb some yummy tomato flavor. But be very careful, tomato soup can scorch easily. Add a little extra water and stir continuously. Cook the pasta at a low boil, not a high boil or your soup will scorch and the whole thing will taste like smoke.

Usually no, but are you making the soup with water or milk? If milk, boiling it for long enough to cook the pasta may be a bad idea. Even with water, cooking tomato soup for that long will require extra attention and stirring. Cook it at the lowest possible temp.

Add it to the soup and let the noodles boil that way. That's how I make chicken noodle soup.

yes, cook it before adding it to the soup or else all the starch that get boiled out will end up in your soup.

you can do it either way, but the noodles will absorb a good bit of water if not boiled first
