If you were flying in for the Shapie 500 from another state where is the closest airport you would fly into and how far is it from the track? Do you need to rent a car or is there a shuttle and also the hotel situation around the track?
All answers would be appriciated.

You can fly into Johnson City, which is a small airport, about 30 minutes from Bristol. Knoxville, TN and Roanoke,VA have larger airports and they are about 2 hours from Bristol. You would probably need to rent a car no matter which airport you come into. Also, if you don't already have hotel reservations, you need to make them quickly and keep in mind that they triple the prices for race week-end. (And most of them require a 3 night minimum)

I think Johnson City is the closest airport. As far as hotels, if you want one close to the track you need reservations months in advance. Last time I went there Pigeon Forge was the closest place for a hotel. Try camping outside the track. Your close to everything and its allways a party.

When we went we flew into Knoxville, rented an RV and drove about two hours up to the track where we stayed at the campgrounds around there. That is THE best way to go, no doubt about it. Being at the track the whole weekend rocks...

the Tri Cities airport would be the closest and you will have to rent a car ,also you better book a room as soon as you can because bristol always sells out and you can never find a room during race weekend
