It depends upon the check-cashing policy of the individual store. Some require a minimum purchase of, say, $10 or $20 and then have a limit on how much extra you can write the check for. Typically it is only $10 or perhaps $20 over.
Plus many of them require you to be an established customer in order to do so. Some stores will also cash paychecks but charge a fee or require a minimum purchase to do so.

Yes, you can write a check and get "CASH BACK!" if the merchant accepts checks?
A better solution would be to utilize your Bank VISA or MasterCard "Check Card" aka. Debit Card and just ask for "CASH BACK!" no check is needed to be written.
Or you can go to the ATM and get the cash FIRST, then make your purchases.
You don't want to leave your check with the merchant with you complete id information and signature?
Use a Debit Card or ATM Card and you can achieve your goal!
GOOD LUCK! :-)

It all depends on the store policy. Some stores will let you write it for like $25.00 over your purchase some won't let you write over at all and some will let you write it for any amount you want. Just ask an employee of the store what their policy is on checks.

It depends on the store. If the store will do it, it's ok.
