I have been told that if you concentrate on the dead soldiers, you are undermining our live ones. i was also told that flying the flag half mast everytime a soldier dies is anti soldier as well. So I ask, will conservatives be honoring memorial day this year? Or is that anti american?

That's ridiculous. No you're not against the troops, you're for them! We are honoring those who have gave their lives and who put their lives on the line for the sake of Freedom, Democracy, Society, and most importantly, these United States of America!!!!!

Raising the flag, and lowering to half mast, is a symbolic act in which it's meaning has been lost. A half mast flag should be flown at half mast only when the President says so, or ceremoniously on 4 days of the year, one of which is Memorial Day.

I will be flying my flag proudly on Memorial Day. I'm a stalwart Conservative, and I believe it would be Anti-american not do honor our soldiers.

Memorial Day is a day to honor our Fallen Heroes. There is nothing un-American about that. These men and women put their lives on the line to protect our way of life. We should support our troops, regardless of how we feel about the war. I am a two time Iraqi War Veteran, and I don't believe in this war, but I was out there in Combat because politics fly out the window when that first shot goes past your head. I personally know fifty four Marines, Sailors and soldiers that have died since the War began. I have attended thirty two funerals. I will be honoring those Fallen Heroes that have served with me and those whose legacy I am a part of. I am the Grand Marshall of the Levittown Memorial Day Parade representing the Veteran's of Operation Enduring / Iraqi Freedom. If you have an American Flag, please post it at half mast until 12:00pm. Also remember, if your Flag is posted and you don't have any lights shining on it, it should be brought inside every night before the sun goes down.

Of course not! Memorial Day is a day to remember all those who have fought for this country and those who didn't make it home. That is what the day is designed for, of course, flying the flag at half mast every time a soldier die is a little extreme and you should only fly it at half when you are told so or is it on one of the national days that you do fly them (for example Patriot's Day)

Just remember that on Memorial Day, remember the fallen, that is what the day is for and just really thank for those who have fallen for this cause, freedom.

Who ever told you that needs to go check out a book from the history of memorial day! Not honoring them I think is unamerican! At least thinking about our soldiers, and remembering all of the ones who have died and givin their lives for all of us! Flying your flag at half mast is a good thing to do too! I dont think just conservatives will be celebrating, because everyone should be.

Memorial Day is the time to honor the soldiers who defended our country, those who gave their lives and the soldiers that are still living. By honoring the soldiers who died for our country, we will be giving the soldiers fighting now the courage & honor to go on.

Sincerely honoring soldiers for their brave and selfless sacrifices is something we should all do.

Cynically using them as pawns in a political debate in such a way as to denigrate the troops still serving in combat situations and make their job harder is not. Especially when some of those same people also eagerly play up any negative information about our soldiers and find easy comparisons between them and Nazis, etc.

Sometimes there's a fine line between the two. The question is the intent behind the action.

Whenever there is doubt, I volunteer to be the final, deciding authority! :)

No it is not against the troops to honor those who have fallen. It is honoring our troops when you fly your flag half mast and it is honoring them when we have memorial day. It is the act of remembering why they died. FOR OUR COUNTRY. It is a great honor for our troops to have people that care about them when they fall. It is only anti American and anti troop when we have groups that go to soldiers funerals and protest in front of the grieving families. They care so much about our country that they persecute the friends and relatives of a dead soldier.

Honoring fallen soldiers and sailors is NOT anti-American or anti-living soldier. The living soldiers want to see their honored dead remembered. You can also remember the living with care packages containing everyday items sent to our service men and women in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Memorial Day is about honoring the soldiers who gave their lives for freedom. It is not just honoring the dead, but the living as well.

Nothing anti-American about it. Honoring Memorial Day is one of the most American things you can do.

As a conservative who wore the uniform, I can assure whoever told you that is telling you pure lies and is full of bull---t. This person wouldn't be a member of that religious sect out of Kansas that hates and spits on soldiers, would they?

Conservatives have never honored those killed in wars. They are too busy getting drunk and having a cookout on a long weekend provided by those who gave their lives.

However, as I have marched in many parades, spent many hours placing flags on the graves of the fallen, I have found that others tend to be no better. They don't show up either. They also don't show up at VA hospitals or old soldiers homes, even once a year!

The reality is that the history of this country is the mistreatment of their veterans!

They would rather give those making, on average, between $880,030 and 26.4 million a year a tax cut and give veterans hospitals a budget cut! $100 BILLION in 2006 alone.

And my views are further enforced by the fact that not one Republican, or one Democrat, on this forum has ever said that is just plain wrong! I am sure those in that category are hurting so much they need a tax-cut. And if I were one, I'd refuse it!
