If you need a God to have morals, what you've got can hardly qualify as real morality.

We nonbelievers think that wrong is wrong, even if you DON'T ever get caught. It doesn't become wrong just when God catches you doing it.

Ethics and morals were around long before your imaginary god. The ancient Greeks practically invented the entire concept. Go read a book other than the Idiots Guide to the Bible, oh wait that is a terrible oxymoron.

The point is to create a society in which to live peacefully, compassionately and happily with your fellow human beings. A better question would be: If you don't want morals then why have a god - what's the point?

Morality does not come from theism or religion.

Morality is a social construct founded upon our development as social creatures, our ability to foresee the consequences of our actions, and our ability to empathise with others. Morality...You know what? Never mind. If you need to believe in a god to keep yourself from raping and murdering people, please keep believing. I can be moral without desire for reward or fear of punishment. If you can't, by all means continue on with your simplistic mindview. Seriously.

Morality becomes completely subjective to the atheist.

If there is no God, then there is no SET standard of right and wrong because there is no God to SET the standard. Atheists then argue, "well its mankind that has set the standard." Uh uh. If mankind sets the standard, then it is SUBJECTIVE, not objective. Things that are objectively true do not depend on how you personally feel about them to make them true. I cant simply make a contract of belief that apples are going to be pink or that murder is correct and good. Murder is wrong and apples are green no matter how I feel about it.

Its not so much that atheists are incapable of adhering and recognizing morality, its that it inherantly has no foundation for OBJECTIVE morality.

Because we have enough strength and belief in ourselves to know right from wrong. We don't need the threat of an invisible being to be a good person. We are moral because it's the right thing to do for ourself, our children, and others. Some of the most judgemental, immoral people I know are Christians.

You can have ethics and morals without a god you know. Morals don't come from gods, they come from society, from humans.

A man's ethical behavior should be based effectually on sympathy, education, and social ties and needs; no religious basis is necessary. Man would indeed be in a poor way if he had to be restrained by fear of punishment and hope of reward after death. (Albert Einstein, "Religion and Science", New York Times Magazine, 9 November 1930)

The point of morals is to get along in society. Do unto others as you would have others do unto you. Simple concept.
