I'm certain you already understand the dangers of smoking. Sorry for the 'butts' who replied. I thought the idea of the 20 oz bottle was a good one. You could put a little water in the bottom. Maybe stash it in a planter and do one a week or something. Or you could see if management would be willing to spring for one of those butt cans that have a large base, then a small enclosed tube that is 2 1/2 or 3 feet tall, with just a small hole to put the butts into - those work pretty well. They are a little pricey - I think around 60 or 70 bucks. But I think if you carry them through the building, wherever you put them, they are going to smell.

During the heydays of my smoking, I was using a 3 litre Corning bowl as an ash tray that used to get pretty well filled up everyday. It used to be a major problem disposing off them.
I gave up forty years back. Nary a disposal problem now. The solution is not to have any butts (Cigarette ones, that is)

Just turn the cigarette around and smoke that end first. Or you could stop smoking all together and if enough people smartened up, the companies would stop making them and you wouldn't have to ask the question.

Stuff it out and throw in thrash can. However, everything in a butt is biodegradable, so it won't hurt the envirnoment. But then again, it makes the roads look ugly with all the litter. Sand is a good way to stuff it out.

remove the paper covering around the filter and break the actual filter apart. This will aid in breaking down the material. The paper covering protects the cigarette.

i always carry around an old altoids tin that i put my butts in instead of just throwing them on the ground. i still empty them in the trash but at least they are not getting washed down storm drains or contributing to the litter problem.

put them in a 45 gallon drum in water ,and let it sit for a while
the water turns brown ,and you can use it in a spray
,and this makes a very good organic pesticide ,against Ants and a whole range or bugs that are around the house
