You can do the diet without the book but the book is very interesting and definitely motivates you. You could easily find the book at the library!

yes. there is a lot of information on the atkins website. this includes a "carb counter," which is what most of the books include. the atkins site has tips and an outline of their four stages.
i'm currently on atkins, again. the last time i went on it, i lost 10 pounds in two and a half weeks. i find that it's a great diet right before summer! good luck.

You can easily follow the basic premise, which is to lower carbs intake, without buying any books. Look on the Internet for the Glycemic Index, and a list of foods that are high, medium or low on the index. Try to eat more from the foods low on the Glycemic index. Pastas and breads are high on the index, and cause your blood sugar to spike and lower your metabolism. I think it's better to go by the index than to just cut out carbs completely - healthier.

Don't do the Atkins diet. Do South Beach. It's much easier and more nutritious.
Atkins himself died of a heart attack so why would you listen to him, lol...
