I'd say that if your doctor has done this for you, you should thank him/her. Who wants to be addicted to pain meds if they don't have to be?

If you're talking about surgeons versus a family doctor - as long as they're an M.D., they can prescribe whatever they believe to be appropriate; however, if I were going to CHOOSE someone to do this, I think I'd want someone with more on-going experience in clinical practice than most surgeons usually have. The human body is a tricky balancing act, and someone who's going to detox you should be VERY familiar with the medications they're planning to use. Surgeons are doctors, of course, but if you think about it, they don't handle a lot of drugs/medication outside their own areas of specialty.

No, it's not. They're doing what's best for you and it's their license on the line to allow you to continue to be addicted to pain medications that THEY are prescribing. Start narcotics anonymous meetings for help.
