I have been overweight my whole life. I guess I had just convinced myself that I was meant to be that way. I just went to see my Doctor today and I was informed that I have HIGH CHOLESTEROL(and not the good kind). I'm only 27!!!! I can't believe that I have done this to myself. My Doctor recommended that I go on a diet and start some excersize, but I think he forgot that I have been fat my whole life so I don't really know how to be healthy. I honestly thought I was pretty healthy. PLEASE HELP ME !!!

Good for you for making changes! Here's where I'd start . . . find a site you like that lets you track your calories (I like fitday.com) and start recording everything you eat. Everything! You'll start to see how many calories you eat every day. Then, cut back a few hundred. It won't be that hard. Try to eat a lot of veggies, whole grains, lean protien. It's also good to eat protien with every meal/snack.

Find a kind of exercise that you like doing. I joined Curves for a year to help me get in the habit of working out. It's less than a half hour of working out, so there's no excuse not to go. After a year, I was motivated enough to do things on my own - running, yoga, videos at home.

Most importantly, don't expect to see major changes right away. Dropping a pound or two a week is about right. It doesn't seem like much at first, but if you start now, by 4th of July, you could be 10 or 12 pounds lighter! That's HUGE!

Good luck!!

Hi KissieGirl! What you're going through and feel are very common. So, you are not alone.
It sounds like you genuinely want to educate yourself as to what habits will help you become healthier, and to commit to implementing them. Great! Step #1 is done.
You have several options:
1. Hire a personal trainer that is knowledgable in nutrition and exercise physiology. This is a great way to ensure success through proper instruction and accountability.

2. Hire an Online Personal Trainer. This is a great alternative to face-to-face training. You can get safe and effective routines at a fraction of the cost to be completed at your convenience.

3. Participate in some classes at your local health club. There is a wide variety of classes that appeal to different interests and fitness levels. You'll be able to find something.

4. Join an online health community. This is a great way to expand your health knowledge and utilize a support group.

Commit to implementing new habits. Have some patience, and have some fun with it!

Hope this helps.

Remember that anything is possible. my suggestion is to have someone work out with you. what you eat isnt as important as how much you eat. good luck to a longer and healtheir life.

Start out by eating 5-6 small meals a day. This speeds up your metabolism like you wouldn't believe. YOu will also get fuller faster. Hit your exercise bike for 45 minutes. No less than 45 minutes, ok? Go out for a walk or jog, whatever you prefer, etc.
The key is the stay disciplined. If you WANT to do it, you can.

I read books on living a healthier life. Womens Health MAg is very good. it has a lot of ideas and work out you can use.

I think the best diet program is "weight watchers." Going to the meetings in person is going to educate you on what to do and also give you enormous emotional support. I also believe their program is the most sensible and one that you can live with because you are able to eat the food you like and learn how to cut portions and still be happy.
