I don't want to lock myself up in the room at night, but I would like him to stop waking me up from chewing on my hair... (I've actually even tried wearing a hat to deter him, but then he started biting my hands...)

I'm not getting too much sleep anymore for work. And he's not a kitten anymore.

I braided my hair once and the cat chewed a good wisp free from my head, and i didn't even notice til i took the braid out and my hair fell out! i don't know how to make them stop though, mine only did it the once, but i would either lock him out (it might be the only way for you to get some sleep) or wear a hat to save your hair and maybe gloves to save you hands?
good luck

Do what mamma cat would do, hiss at him when you catch him doing this. That's what your cat will understand. My cat used to do that too.

Also, when they groom each other they chew. Sometimes they chew to catch fleas or to get matts out of their fur. If your cat is offering to groom you, then it considers you part of the "pride". Your an honorary cat, momma cat basically. I'm guessing your cat is grooming you, but if this annoys you do what other cats would do, and that's hiss. Your cat will understand things better in "his" language.

Also, there's a spray you can get usually at the Vets or in pet stores called Bitter Apple. It makes whatever it's sprayed on taste bitter and not as much fun to chew. You could place a little on your hair before you go to bed. When you get up, just wash it out in the morning.

He has a strong need to "groom" you - he's showing his love for you, but it isn't getting through to him that its a bit annoying. Is he alone a good bit of the day? If so, maybe you should consider adopting a cat friend for him - then he can groom it, instead of you. A cat that is a bit younger & of the opposite sex usually is accepted by the existing cat pretty quickly - but be sure both are altered & vaccinated & tested for things like feleuk & fiv to be sure you don' expose the cats to diseases. Maybe someone else has some other ideas. Good luck.

Well, the fact that the cat is chewing on your hair could mean that he's either looking for affection from you or he wants to play. You can change his behavior by interacting with him more. He's trying to tell you that he's content and happy with you because he wants to interact with you.
But of course, an easy solution would be hairspray or spray on conditioner that would leave a bad taste in his mouth when he chews on it.

Your cat needs a kitty friend. Having another cat keeps your cat occupied when he wants to play and you don't. And they can groom each other instead of you. And they can cuddle together, and play kitty games that humans can't.

Another cat also would be company for him when you are at work. He probably sleeps all day because of boredom, and then wants you to play with him all night.

Plus you might be saving a life of another kitty who otherwise wouldn't ever have a home or know love. And I know you have love enough for 2!

Go to Petco or where ever you shop and get some Bitter Apple spray. Put it on your hair before bed. He will only chew it once. This stuff is amazing. I use it on various surfaces for my 19 week old kitten. It's great.

Cats are so weird. Mine decides to head-butt me when Im not out of bed by 6am lol. If your hair is long see if you can maybe put it in a bun or something. Other than that, Ive locked my cat out of the bedroom before and that worked fine.

Try feeding him. He sounds like he is starving. Poor creature...

Anyways, on a more serious note, he sounds like he is just being playful. Cats like toys and strings and the like and your hair may strike him as many strands of string for him to bat at and chew. Either put your hair up or close your door and leave him outside the room. If you get him a friend, his attention may be less drawn to your hair.

I don't let my cat in the bedroom at night. Sleeping is more important than having your cat in bed. It also cuts down on cat hair and dander. Sorry, cat. I love you, but you have your own bed.
