We have no god dictating right and wrong to us. We have no hell to worry about if we make a wrong decision. We show respect where we feel it is deserved. People who spew ignorance and insist other people should believe fairy tales are not really worthy of respect.
You (Christians) on the other hand have a code of conduct to follow. We can all read it for ourselves and tell whether or not you are following it. If we call you on it and you try to excuse your behavior rather than admitting it, we only see you as liars and hypocrites.
Why insist on other people being nice to you when you cannot even stop yourselves from acting like complete imbeciles?

Mel, that's exactly what I am talking about. I believe we agree, but perhaps my description or whatever may have been unclear to some. I have plenty of respect for those who deserve it. Privately believing a fairy tale is acceptable I guess, but publicly whining to me about it is not respect-worthy. I do not have to be nice to people who say "(insert ridiculous claim here) is true whether you believe it or not". It is insulting and will often be countered with that of the same.

Lorraine, yes Christians have to be nice. Otherwise, they are not following the teachings of Jesus (refer to new testament if you think I am lying). The word "Christian" means follower of Christ. How can you follow Christ if you do not follow him? Good grief, Christian stupidity could give me a headache if I didn't have such a good sense of humor about it all.

Suspendor of Disbelief, consider the fact that people who believe in fairy tales are voting and passing laws based on their beliefs from these fairy tales. These laws have a direct impact on my life and my personal freedom. Why should I show them any respect?

Char, that is total BS. The bible says the same thing no matter who quotes it. If your refusal is based on the idea that it is not fair that you have a written code to follow and I do not, whose fault is that? Heh, I could even play along and provide a code of ethics that I believe in and follow. Where would that get us?

Matt D, is it also hypocritical to expect a painter to paint? Is it hypocritical to expect a swimmer to swim? You decided to be a Christian -not me. You have no right to call me a hypocrite and say I do not understand your bible simply because you call yourself a christian but cannot act like one. When I say you have no right, I mean you have no right in the sense of being intellectually honest, if that is even possible for a Christian.

Let's play analysis with this:
We [think we] have no god dictating right and wrong to us. We [think we] have no hell to worry about if we make a wrong decision. We show respect where we feel it is deserved [if we feel like it but are often inconsistent since we are human and have nothing other than our own limited perspective to guide us]. [We think that] People who spew ignorance [translation: disagree with what is obviously right (ie our opinions)] and insist other people should believe [what we in our limited perception hold to be] fairy tales are not really worthy of respect.
You (Christians) on the other hand have a code of conduct to follow. We can all read it for ourselves and tell whether or not you are following it. If we call you on it and you try to excuse your behavior rather than admitting it, we only see you as liars and hypocrites [though we are free to be loose cannons and blow gaping holes in other people's emotions since we are free to behave however poorly we wish].
Why insist on other people being nice [adhering to the rules which stabilize society] to you when you cannot even stop yourselves from acting like [what is in my obviously humble opinion] complete imbeciles?

We DO understand; TRUST ME! LOL But there's a difference between been an "imbecile" (as you mentioned) who doesn't know how to act accordingly or , in YOUR case, SPEAK accordingly versus a person with proper manners and ethical behavior. Think about it : in the workforce is not allowed to mix your beliefs with your work (just like with gov't, of course), but they DO have a code of conduct and a proper way to deal with people & issues. Where do you think they get that from? Obviously, they "REFUSE" the use of the bible so (or so THEY say, because that's how it originally began if you didn't know!); in any case, "ya'll" also live by some sort of "right & wrong" made-up standard. =PPPPPPP
PEACE YO!!! =D
(Where's the courtesy and the decency?)

Well one thing you will not hear a christian claim is that they're not human, which means they are vulnerable to the same things as athiests. However, why not pick on Buddah, or the Muslim religon, or scientology? Why is it that chrisianity is the most picked on religion? Maybe there is an element of truth to it? You're a perfect example. Instead of going and picking on other religions you have chosen christianity. I find that quite interesting, especially if you think it is just a bunch of fluff and fairytales. If that is what you say it is then why worry about christians. Why not let christians live in their own fairytales if what they believe isn't real anyway? Or maybe you have to convince yourself it isn't true

Quite true. Atheists basically are forced down a road of subjective morality. But there IS something extremely hypocritical on the part of atheists about trying to convict others of laws and rules you arent willing to follow yourself. Heck, most unbelievers I talk to dont properly understand the Bible anyway so how can you try to judge a people by beliefs that you dont even understand over believe to begin with?
The problem is there is nothing to be gained by judging believers. You have no power or authority over us, only God does. and if some of us who believe know the truth and still cant make it to God, what chance to people who deny him have?

"We have no god dictating right and wrong to us."
-Wrong, God has told you what is right and wrong, you simply choose to ignore him.
"We have no hell to worry about if we make a wrong decision."
-Wrong again. Just because you claim to not believe in God doesn’t make him go away. You don’t believe in Hell? It’s still there, you’re still going.
"We show respect where we feel it is deserved."
-And apparently because Christians believe in something that you find to be stupid and therefore we are not worthy of your respect.
"People who spew ignorance and insist other people should believe fairy tales are not really worthy of respect."
-If you don’t want to hear about it or read about it…get off the computer and stay out of the R/S section of Yahoo…it would save you a lot of trouble. FYI, the Bible is not a fairy tale…you’re the one believing the fairy tale the devil created…the one where God doesn’t exist. Good luck with that when Jesus comes back.
"You (Christians) on the other hand have a code of conduct to follow."
-Yes we do. Praise God!
"We can all read it for ourselves and tell whether or not you are following it."
-You reading our answers on Yahoo answers…especially on questions intentionally created to provoke us, does not prove anything. Unless you know us personally and can see our lives for yourself…you know nothing.
"If we call you on it and you try to excuse your behavior rather than admitting it, we only see you as liars and hypocrites."
-I don’t excuse my behavior. I admit it, when people write questions like this intended to be sharp, hurtful, and rude…I return their efforts with a sharp, but truthful answer. We all fall short of the glory of God. I don’t have to be perfect all the time. By the way you might see a lot of Christians on here as doormats...I most certainly am not.
"Why insist on other people being nice to you when you cannot even stop yourselves from acting like complete imbeciles?"
-FYI…we’re not the imbeciles…you don’t know me…you are judging me and everyone else on her and our walk with God when you don’t know either…you are the ignorant one. Someday you will realize that; I pray it is sooner rather than later. And if I ever see you writing anything about how Atheist are so tolerant and how you're all just a great big tolerant bunch of people...I am sorry but F that. Seriously...tolerant? Whatever...you are the most intolerant SOB on here!

I beg to differ Mon Frere, In the Atheism Handbook, (le Heretique de Ouvrier Livre) written in France in 1664 by the Compte de Saint Germain it plainly states,"Atheists must always act intelligently and politely to all, especially to religious people. The reason for this is that some people are Christians, others are Hindus, still others do not believe in any kind of God, but we are all Human Beings. You dishonor your beliefs if you accompany them with insulting behavior and rude arguments."

So... because other people are incapable of reason, you figure you have a right to be inhumane? That doesn't speak well for your belief system, does it?
[Edit] Laws based on fairy tales... Such as?
Last I checked, the Supreme Court and the ACLU are making very sure that doesn't happen.

No one has to "be nice". Most religions have a track record of being decidedly "unnice" to unbelievers.
But most people- atheists, agnostics or believers- still have a moral code. A Christian doesn't necessarily agree with their religion's code book 100%- nor does a Jew or a Muslim. I believe that a hypocrite is one who isn't true to themselves, rather than just not following the rules of their religion.
If being nice is part of your moral code, then you should be nice.. if you aren't, then don't tell others that they should be- I don't think religion really enters into it.

Do some research even the barbarians had a code of ethics and the natural law to guide their behavior. Freedom doesn't mean you can be obnoxious on either side of the fence.

Ethics and morality are not the sole territory of christians. The concepts were around, discussed and shaped long before your religion was ever thought of.
Not believing in an imaginary friend is simply that. How christians extrapolate from there to thinking we are immoral baby eaters is just rediculous. But then stupidity is one of religions' strongest attributes.
