Does anyone have any sugestions on how to stop this or controll it a little bit. I try to keep belts on him and at night I put him in a sleeper that I have to put on him backwards to keep him away from it. At first I figured it was normal and now its been about 1 1/2 years. Nothing works.

He is circumcized and I have tried to talk to him. He tells me okay and as soon as I turn my back he is doing it again. Usually has one thumb in his mouth and the other down his pants. As soon as I tell him to stop he switches hands, its gross.

When my son was that age. He really loved his willy and was/is very proud of it! I found when he got upset his hands would go down his pants. Its a comfort thing. In talking to lots of people I know that have boys most say the same thing that there boys went through it to. Let him do it he will out grow it. I told my son I wasn't cross he played with his willy, But if he wants to play with his willy its something he does at home! Its not sexual or perverse. To him it just feels nice!

Unfortunately, totally normal. I've seen guys in their 20s who do that. Plus, their hands don't always stay in the pants. their hands roam - start out under their shirt, on their abs, then move up toward their chest, then back down and deep in the pants, and so on, and so on... If he is doing this and always getting hard, that would be a problem. If not, it is still socially inappropriate in public. Remind him of that - and the fact that most girls think that is a real turn-off. Does he even realize he does it. Sometimes it is a surprisingly subconscious act. Also, make sure he washes his hands when you see him do it. Hate to sound like a mom, but would you want him touching you, or food, etc, if you knew he had **** hands?

i had problems like that with my daughter when she was little. i was scared,i thought she was being messed with at daycare.her dr. check her out. he said she was fine and normal behavior. i tried overrales and sleepers.the dr. says it is a way toddlers relax themselves.i got my daughter some crayons and coloring books and a cheap radio with headphones.it helped to distract her and keep her busy.you have to find what works best.keeping his hands busy would help.plus her dr. told me i need to explain to her in her understanding terms that it may feel good but she should do it in private.not in front of people.but the more you make an issue of it the more they will do it.because they get attention for it.try distractions.worked for me. she eventually quit.boys are different though.make sure his underwear or pants arent pinching.good luck

Welcome to the joys of mothering boys. I have a 10yr old, 6yr old & 6 1/2mths. They love it. Pulling, stretching, twisting...makes me cringe. They will stop, but remember, it will start back up soon enough. Just remember not to get mad, he's figuring out what he has. You need to let him know that it's normal, but if that he wishes to continue with it, it should occur in the privacy of his room.

he's just curious.. and lets be real adult men can't seem to let it go either. lol!!
what you can do is tell him that behavior is inappropriate (obviously using 3 1/2 year old terms) and redirect him to another activity.. preferably one which requires two hands. lol!!
good luck.. don't worry girls aren't any easier.

tell him he can only do that in private in his room and not around other people because it's rude. at 3 1/2 he should understand. try overalls.

You shouldn't be stopping him from doing it. You need to teach him that it it is something personal, and private. You definatley don't want him to think that it is bad or dirty...he just needs to know to do it when he is alone.

2 choices -ignore it or teach him that masturbation is natural and healthy and should be done in the privacy of his bedroom or bathroom.
