Namasté or Namaskar (Nam-a-stay)
The gesture 'Namaste' represents the belief that there is a Divine spark within each of us that is located in the heart Chakra. The acknowledgment of the soul in one by the soul in another.
'Nama' means bow, 'as' means I, and 'te' means you. Therefore, 'Namaste' literally means 'bow me you' or 'I bow to you.'
Used as a greeting or upon parting, by putting the palms of the hands together in prayer position, it means:
1) I honor the place in you
in which the entire Universe dwells,
2) I honor the place in you
which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace,
3) When you are in that place in you,
and I am in that place in me, we are One.
It is also a way of saying: 'I recognize that we are all equal'

I saw this on Lost and looked it up on the web. It is a Hindi greeting meaning "I bow to you" or a reverential salutation.

Loosely translated it means the divine within me recognises the divine within you. It's a word that conveys your unconditional tolerance and respect towards others.

As far as I can tell it means "The divinity in me salutes the divinity in you." Rather a nice sentiment.
