RAMEN brother!!!! Just like some idiots I saw that were so thankful to "god" because a handful of them lived after a tornado destroyed their homes and church and killed many others. What the hell are they thinking, that if they don't say "thanks for not killing me too" another one will be coming for them in a minute or two? Sheesh!!

Here is the problem? When natural disasters hit the human race, they pray as you say, but overlook the fact that long ago their ancestors rebelled against God's Sovereignty or way of rule, Thus they rebelled too by following the god of this system 2 Cor 4:4, 1. So if people understood that their prayers should be for God Almighty to finish his plans for the earth and the human race. (see Mathew 6:9,10, Dan 2:44, Revelation 21:3,4 ) Soon this minor god will go into the abyss, this evil ruler, the one called Devil, and Satan who is a man-slayer, who is miss-guiding man's thoughts where they can't find truth. Eventually this will cause millions of people to loose the good life that is promised. see 2 Cor 4:3-5.
To those who do discern, and act upon the answers that the Bible provides it is better than gold.
The only way I know for people to do this is study the scriptures and ask questions, sound these thoughts down into there figurative hearts, so then they can quit following the Lie and unknowingly the liar, Satan who now rules this earth.

EASY - "In all things you are to give thanks to the Lord!"
Also, they do pray that disaster's don't happen and they pray for those (believers or non-believers) who may have been hurt by the disaster.
It does not "work" (as you put it) because if everything in the world went great all of the time we would have no need for God what so ever! (Example: When you were a kid (unless you still are) there would be no need for your parents if you could just pop right out, start walking, find your own food and pay your own bills, and make good decisions.)
God hears those prayers and is there for us. You just cannot get past your physical self and realize that God is spiritual!
*** And do you even realize how much of a biggot you are? Calling people brainwashed and thinking them less than yourself is biggotry at its finest - So much for that open minded, broad view of the world there chico***

We should thank God that we survived. I survived my whole apartment burning down when I was 19. I could have been burned to a crisp, if I would have been home. But I didn't EXPECT my home to burn to the ground, therefore, I didn't pray for no fires. It just wasn't on my mind and that is our human nature. When we pray, we usually stick to the particulars of survival, family, illnesses and such. We don't take time to pray that no one gets cancer or that we won't have any floods or earthquakes. I can tell you why I don't personally pray for it not to happen: I believe in prophecy and things are getting a wee bit worse out there, which is to be expected if you are up on prophecy. I wish it wouldn't happen but it's been foretold and some of the signs are upon us now, actually. Prayer does work but we as humans are usually going to pray about the dying aunt, a job situation, kid problems, etc. We pray everyday for the safety of our son in Iraq. We also take time to thank God for His provisions. We pray for our family but as a Christian family, we know this prophecy and God is revving it up out there. Hal Lindsay did some phenomenal earthquake research and they are happening now more often. Signs of the times. God has his ways and I think the best prayers are prayers of thanks and prayers addressing immediate needs and not addressing what is likely inevitable in the end.

Believers arent exempt from the curses. We die in natural disasters just as every woman endures pain at childbirth.
We seek God in prayer to be spared from certain fates because some of us arent ready to die and are willing and eager to do his will.

Yeah, we thank God that we weren't in a disaster, or that we survived one... Sounds like a plot to keep people emotionally tied to thier religion... unable to take credit for their accomplishments, or to take responsibility for thier own failings. Work hard, suffer much, die destitute... I guess this is all one can expect from a JEALOUS God... huh? Sounds like the Dark side of the Force to me, Luke!

Nature's power is an amazing thing. I live in Florida and have caught the winds of nearby hurricanes but never a direct hit. Even with that, you become humble over the "what could have been" scenarios. I don't chalk it up to god, though, it's mother nature doing it's thing.

not related...people are just happy they have a second chance & hope God is listening to them on TV. God lets most stuff happen to people to build their character...to see where they're going to turn in times of trouble. And plus we're too busy thinking of ourselves and the new outfit or video game we want to start praying for something NOT to happen.

Because he sends disaster to prove their faith. Just like in the book of Job. So not only do you give your life to Jesus you need to thank him for all the crap in your life. Thank you Jesus can I have another.
OK, I'm sorry, that was mean spirited. But I just got thru reading some other stuff that didn't put me in a forgiving mood.

"ARGUMENT FROM INCOMPLETE DEVASTATION:
(1) A plane crashed killing 143 passengers and crew.
(2) But one child survived with only third-degree burns.
(3) Therefore, God exists."
Obviously god has a perfect plan, which includes the natural disasters, right?
