It's easy. Just check out magazines, wedding planning websites, or your local bookstore for guides or a wedding checklist. Checklists contain all the things that usually need to be done for a wedding and how far in advance to do them. Just follow the list or guide every month and get everything done one item at a time. I did a majority of my wedding planning by myself because i wanted everything done my way and didn't want anyone's help. It may seem like a lot to do but if you start planning far enough in advance and take it month by month, you'll be fine. And don't hesitate to ask people (ie bridal store employees, flower shop clerks, etc) lots of questions. These people usually have lots of experience with weddings and will help you with whatever you need, especially if they value your business.
P.S. My local yellow pages were my best friend for a few months. A lot of services/companies now have their websites listed in their ads in the yellow pages. That really helps too!

Your wedding should be all about you and if you do all of that stuff for your wedding you'll be too tired to enjoy yourself on your day and you'll soon start to just want it over. I know everyone around you is busy but when you annouce your wedding your friends/family suppose to set some time aside for you afterall it's not everyday that a girl gets married. However only do a few things a day like one day find a dress and chapel. The reception will take a whole day on it's own and so on. For my wedding I bought my dress off ebay and i paid 130.00 for a brand new dress with the tags still on and it was beautiful it was white, lace bodice, royal train length and over here that dress would have been at least 700.00. Also don't skimp on the photography. Your pictures/video will be the only things left for years to come so put the most money in those. I hope your wedding is everything you dreamed it would be. Also get rid of anything/anyone that causes you extra stress.

Hi Katie, Congratulations on your engagement!
Getting married can seem overwhelming because there are a lot of details to sort out, but if you plan a little bit, it's totally manageable. (And in a good way, there's a little less drama from having too many hands in the planning... ;))
Try this:
-Sit down for a few quiet moments and imagine what your wedding looks like. Where is it? What does it look like? How many bridesmaids? What do they look like? How about flowers? Allow all of the details to come into your head.
-Next, think about the process of a wedding from someone else's perspective. What do the invitations look like? What will the food being served look like? Is there a rehearsal dinner? If so, what does that look like?
Write these ideas down either as you go or at the end of all of your quiet imaginings. It will help clear your mind, organize that you need to do, and help you get a good idea of what fits inside your budget and what you can do without.
Most of all, have fun with it! After the day is over you'll feel great that you did things on your own--and people will be amazed at what a great job you did.

Go to 3 florist of your choice with the flowers you want and find out which on is cheapest or within your budget and hire them to make your flowers for the wedding day.
Go to the bridal shops you like in your area and give them your budget for a dress and try on those dresses within your budget and pick one out and have them arrange for that dress to be fitted by the month before your wedding.
Decide today which church you would like to be married in, talk to the minister at that church and find out if the church is available on that day and pay the fees to arrange to be married with the time and all that stuff. Important for you to find out if there are any pre requirements for the preacher to marry you, and if so find out what you have to do and what the fees are.
If you are having a reception outside the church, arrange for the reception hall 1st and foremost to make sure it is open for the day of your wedding and pay for the fees
If you are going to hire a caterer, make sure they are arranged for the day of your wedding to do everything and you pay them too. This should be done asap too.
Make sure contracts are signed by everyone. Keep proof of everything so you know you are set up and no one can back out.
I never had a wedding. I never had anyone care enough to ask me to marry them and have a nice wedding and I am divorced twice. If I was there, I would help you. Weddings are beautiful and I think you deserve to have a beautiful day.
Congratulations and blessings to you and your fiance.

Hi! Congrats on your wedding!!! I don't know how much time you have on your hands but I would start early in the game. Have your fiance involved as well even though you might not agree on some things. This will give you quality time together and he will not feel left out. Do some research on the net... start buying magazines and reading them for ideas. Yes, it's a lot of work but it can be accomplished without a wedding planner. My fiance and I are planning our wedding. We're getting married in June of 2008. Best wishes.

You could hire a wedding planner (if this is all too much for you to do). If you don't like the sound of that you could always look through Bridal catalogs and find info... they normally have websites of where you can find stuff, if the stuff you want isn't offered some where local to you. You should have your maid-of-honor helping you (that is part of her duties). Plus your soon to be husband should also be putting his hand in to help! Hope you have a wonderful wedding!! Good luck!!

I am planning my wedding on my own as well. My family is in Cali and I am in Kansas. We are million of miles apart. What helps me a lot is theknot.com. There is everything you need on there to help you. As for wedding dress shopping I'm sure you can get one or 2 of your friends to help you go with you to look on a weekend or something. If they are your friends they can and will want to go dress shopping with you. And start planning asap. So you have plenty of time to look at reception sites and ceremony sites. Congratulations! And Good Luck!

first off, do not make it all that stuff.
Be simple, get the idea of this big thing out of your head of the the wedding will cost more than your first house
Why does everyone have such a big reception... no one ever remebers it.. you are to busy running around greeting people you never get to see it...
TRUST ME, IN THE END YOU CAN BUY MORE GIFTS WITH THE MONEY YOU SAVE THAN PEOPLE BRING...unless you got an extra $20-30K sitting around that will disapear if you do not spend it....
