I wonder this too. I know it helps to get some sun and vitamin D and E. When you tan, it darkens all the skin, including the scar. So it serves as a temporary bandaid. Do NOT use any facial cleansers with micro beads in them, because that leads to acne scars.
There are also products on the market to help fade acne scars. Ask at CVS pharmacy.

If you can find a product that has vitamin C & E, those are supposed to be good for your skin and scars...You can get vitamin E facial oil at Walmart for a few dollars. It's sticky like you wouldn't believe, but just put it on at night time before bed. Tea Tree Oil is also good, apparently, and you can also find it in Wally World. Also, do not use alcohol to clean your face, use Witch Hazel, which you can also get at Walmart. There is also a very good but expensive product you can get from the Shaklee company. Just visit Shaklee.com and type in go to products and look underskin care...I use this stuff and it's pretty good. Hope this helps.

If you can, see your doctor or a dermatologist & ask about Retin-A or Differin. These prescription products promote exfoliation & stimulate collagen production. Both helped diminish my shallow acne scars but I preferred Differin because it was more gentle.
Some people swear by using aspirin topically - it promotes cell turnover.
You can crush up 6 plain, uncoated aspirin tablets and mix it w/ a little water to make mask.
Mix 6 aspirin tablets with a little aloe to make a mask.
Use about 6 uncoated tablets, witch hazel, tee trea oil, and aloe to make a thin paste.
For toner:
8 ounce bottle of distilled water add four uncoated aspirin
or
mix of 1/2 water, 1/2 witch hazel, 15 aspirin, and 2 drops of tea tree essential oil and 2 drops of rosemary essential oil

I got quite a bit of acne scarring, especially on my forehead. 2 things that have helped my scarring are: aloe vera gel and sudocrem!
They're cheap, yet work wonders!
Hope that helps

There are Vitamin K creams that are used to lighten or maybe even eliminate some stretch marks and scars. This is probably the best treatment you can buy at the stores for it.
