I am having a biospy of a soft tissue mass (on the back of knee) next week. How long does it take before they will know if it cancerous? It is a CT guided biopsy. If anyone could explain how the biopsy is done that would be great too! I would like to go in there a little prepared. Thanks!!

It usually takes what seems like a lifetime to get biopsy results - but usually it is about one week if the sample needs to be sent out of house, and 2-3 days if done in-house. The tissue sample is usually collected by aspiration through a needle, unless the mass is particularly hard or to deep. The CT scan is used to make sure the needle obtains a representative sample of cells from different parts of the mass.
