Ok, here is the thing. You have an Ecuadorian passport but are you a legal resident of New Jersey and or pending for residency papers (such as the green card or temporary residency) then it is ok to do so.
If all you have is an Ecuadorian passport and/or it is expired it can lead to some discourse.

As long as your passport is valid and you have a valid visa from the US Government, you're free to move unrestricted throughout the United States.

Passports are not required for travel within the continental US. If you are on a visa, it will be for entry into the US and is not state or city specific.
