Thank you for the positive input. As many have said before, there are good and bad in every walk of life despite where you live!
My sole purpose in my profession is to:
Maintain the highest standards of honesty, integrity, and professionalism;
Help those who need help;
Protect my community from those who prey upon the rights of others;
Go home at the end of the day with a good feeling in my heart knowing I've done something POSTIVE with my life and included those who live in my community!
Best wishes!

I agree some cops can be honest, respectful, law abiding people (I include obeying traffic laws in "law abiding"). And that's great. Its just that the percentage of the ones who are not is way way WAY too high. Cops are given incredible power and control over people and if they mess with that, it's going to get people upset, and rightly so.
When people say bad things about cops it is not necessarily unfounded. If a cop just does their job, people shouldn't have a problem with them personally. (However, doing their job includes controlling their OWN legal behavior). It's when they behave inappropriately or illegally that there is trouble. But there SHOULD be trouble under those circumstances. Cops SHOULD feel pressure to behave. Afterall, that is precisely what they make civilians do, and get paid to do so.
And CHOSE to do so.
If cops don't want bad things said about them, then they shouldn't DO bad things. Very few people would complain about good cops.
If a cop is good, fantastic! Keep doing it. The complaining is only about the bad cops. (when I say "bad" I am covering quite a bit, not just felonies. A cop with a bad attitude is a bad cop). I think cops are smart enough to know deep down if they deserve the bad comments or not.
Finally, "respect gets respect". "you get what you give." These should apply to cops just as much as to any civilian.
One more thing: if a cop CAN'T do their job without acting like a jerk, then they should find another job. In any other line of work, if you act like a jerk, you get in trouble or fired...same should apply to cops.

National Law Enforcement Week May 13-19! Wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your willingness and courage to serve all of us through working for the Police Department. I realize that law enforcement is a very challenging and at times dangerous, and can interfere with all aspects of a person's life due to the demands of the job and the dedication it takes. Then there comes the negativity in the media and lack of appreciation by the public. However, you remain able, willing, and dedicated to serving these exact same people. I greatly admire and appreciate that.
Thank You, Leigh Ann

Cops are great! Like some of the others have said they put their life on the line for us citizens everyday! What upsets me is when people sue them for just trying to do their job! What is wrong with the judges who don't throw these cases out of court! There's one incident where the guy is running and the cops are yelling for him to stop and he keeps running because of a robbery he commited and finally a cop or two tackle him and try to subdue him, not knowing if he may try to kill them, because he didn't do what they said and then they get reprimanded because they bruised him a little. C'mon people support our men and women who protect and serve! It should be no question that when you break a law you should have no rights! If you commit murder, rape, or any heinous crime then your death sentence shouldn't be humane!

I echo your sentiments and the ones of the majority here. I am proud of my husband ever time that he puts his uniform on. Like the one person said, it is not the 100 nice things that you do that folks remember, it is that 1 bad thing, or at least what is perceived as a bad thing, that will be remembered.
Off duty my husband stopped to help an elderly couple that were stranded with their RV having a flat, he spent two hours in the cold at night helping them.
He was with an airplane accident victim (shortly after the plane crashed) and talked to him while he watched him die. Knowing that the medics would not reach him in time. To give him peace and company in his final hours.
To see the looks in the children's eyes when they see a 'hero' and not some mean person.
This weekend my husband will be presenting the colors in an ceremony honoring those fallen officers.
My prayers and respect is with all those who wear that badge. Stay Safe

Too bad that a few bad cops give us all a bad rap. Like any other profession though, there always a few that should not be there.
Most cops are hard working normal everyday people just trying to do their job as best they can.

I do - my dads a cop. I love him to death. He puts his life on the line to protect his community every day.
I hate the people that talk about cop killing and calling them pigs. They are people, not robots.
They go home to a family who loves them, just like everyone else does. They arent trying to bring you down or frame you, they are trying to protect the others and keep the community safe.
Cops are an important part of our society Im glad to have.
Once, my dad was walking by a house and noticed a kid up on a roof. He watched as the kid jumped off with a noose around his neck. He jumped the fence, cut the rope and saved his life.
Then the kids parents sued him for breaking the beam the kid tried to kill himself on.

Thanks for your kind words. I spent 21 of the best years of my life as a police officer and I absolutely loved the job. One of the best times was post 9/11 when people would actually come up and say "thank you for doing your job."
It makes you realize that unlike 11223344 most decent people support the police and law enforcement, but don't usually come in contact with us. It's the repeat customers who are skirting the law who generally have such "nice things" to say about the police.

As with any profession, people make mistakes.
Law enforcement officers are often public figures, so their mistakes do not go unnoticed.
That being said, if it weren't for a police officer showing up at my sisters house by mistake(misunderstood the address #)
Then she would not have been found and saved her from an OD.
My sister and our whole family thank all cops, mistakes and all.

You're efforts are appreciated, and it sounds like you live in a great town, but don't hold your breathe. The only positive responses you're going to get, will be coming from Police Officers, or their relatives, and friends. The people who like to bash the Police, are individuals who have trouble counting past one, and have focused in on one group, and are too lazy to do any research. Prisons, and jails are filled with people that are not the Police, but that doesn't make headlines. Those that wear, or who have worn the uniform, do not need praise. They already know that they're doing a great job, and it is much appreciated. Unfortunately, the very few that have disgraced the uniform, are nothing less than criminals that passed the test.
Thank you for your positive thought.
