HONG KONG (AFP) - A debate raging over the morals of Hong Kong's racy media took a bizarre twist Wednesday with revelations that a decency watchdog had been flooded with obscenity complaints about the Bible.
The Television and Entertainments Licensing Authority (Tela), which oversees the publishing industry, said it had received 208 complaints that text within the holy book was indecent.
"I can confirm that the complaints were received," said a Tela spokeswoman. "The thrust of the complaints was that the Bible was obscene, that different parts of the Bible were offensive to readers."Tela refused to divulge details of the complaints, but local media reported that they referred to acts of violence, rape and cannibalism reputedly contained in the Old and New Testaments.Reports speculated that the sudden flurry of messages sent to Tela was sparked by a Chinese-language website www.truthbible.com, which had exhorted readers to pressure Tela to reclassify the Bible as an indecent publication

i agree that you people are not offensive but my point is that when other christians say bad things about muslims, they should realize that they are hurting someone's feelings. And i agree that Moses, abraham are nmentioned in the holy Quran too. even Jesus christ is mentioned and we believe him. Christians should understand this too.

Friend I have tried not to make fun of any ones religious beliefs and if you would be kind enough to do some research into such matters it would become apparent that this Islam religion that people make fun of , as you say they do, is in fact an off branch of the Hebrew texts which is the bases for the holy bible that is being studied by these Christians of today. There for that being said if you are a study of this religion I would only warn you and your fellow believers that there is a very good chance that these individuals throwing their stones at the Christians Holy Bible will one day read some of your texts and find some of it offensive so beware and careful - may you live a long life with few troubles and much happiness. Who makes fun of Islam???? You've got a bit of a chip on your shoulder, haven't you?
No one said the Bible was easy reading. If some people find it offensive, well, then they are the sensitive type. I have to say the whole bible is written in such a matter of fact way, that it is hard to accuse it of such. Maybe the bits where women get stoned for adultery are a bit much. Maybe the crucifiction of Jesus is a bit heavy, but you'll find that in any historical document of the Roman time.
Hard to understand what they're talking about, really.

I hate it when all Christians get pigeon-holed into something that doesn't truely represent the group. I can't speak for others, but I don't make fun of Islam. And I realize the bible contains violence. But if you're going to censor the bible because of that, then they're going to half to censor all of history which is very violent.
And I'm against censorship on all levels. Music, print, radio. I don't think anyone should have the right to censor that stuff, except from little kids of course.

Who cares what they say... American's have the same debates every single day... this is not anything new.
Besides... Christians are not the only ones who disagree with Islam... I can give you a list of other social groups who disagree with Islamic beliefs... many don't even regard Muslim beliefs at all because they dont feel its worthy of the attention!
Furthermore... please point out to me where in the new testament did Jesus support or do any of these things... nowhere.
You are focusing on the old testament... this may be a better question for the Jews! Christians believes that Jesus fulfilled teh laws of the old testamament and WE don't live according to these laws anymore.

I don't understand your point. If they are insulting the Bible, then they are insulting Islam too, since they are attacking Moses and Abraham, and calling their writings indecent (Moses is considered to be a prophet by Muslims also, last time that I checked). Why do we care if the communists complain about the Bible anyway? They opinion means exactly what to me?

Dear, people make fun of Christians all of the time, because they don't like the fact that we try to live by God's laws. We are used to it (and we are used to the thumbs down, also).

Aren't you speaking here of a country that would always rather be "communist" and "hater" of truths, in the first place? This is China! Of course, the officials of that country hate the truth of the bible... they want nothing to be revealed but what they themselves want out... This is a country where a woman could be shot to death on a bus just for coughing! and possible passing on a virus to another soul! The Bible, as we all know happens to be a book of accurate and historical truths that go back since the beginning of time and if it happens to contain unpleasant and inconvenient truths, well then, the only place that we can look, is in the mirror! as we are all descendants of these nasty ancestors, one way or the other! The truth hurts when all people are interested about is to have their ears tickled... Millions, on the other hand, prefer the truth at all cost! I'm one of them!

About making fun of Islam? I don't think that there is anything funny whatsoever about it! I know the truth of that too! It may not be pretty but it aint' funny! and never was!
On the contrary, just thinking that there might be even one virgin in the heavens is making fun of the Bible, which clearly states that only spirits (invisible spirits, that go through cement walls!) can live in heaven, (where there are no such thing as matter! of any kind anyway!) no food! no bed! no movies! no material things whatsoever! so who's making fun of who? When they make fun of their own people by lying to them through their teeth asking them to blow themselves up with as many people as they can so that they might find all these virgins in heaven??? Even though that concept is nothing short of ridiculous in my mind, I still would do everything in my power to help and save anyone of them from getting hurt or harmed if I only could!!! I don't laugh at people and never did and never will! I love people! The fact that they believe many lies and did even when they chose to kill Christ, didn't bother Jesus to die for us all anyway and to ask his father to forgive them as they don't know what they are doing... Isn't that truth??? And it still is today as all of us who do our utmost to follow in his footsteps, love all people, even our enemy! whom we pray for! so that they will be one day clear-minded enough to have that veil of lies lifted from their eyes once and for all and we do pray that the true God, himself, whether he is called God, Allah or Jehovah, will help them in doing just that before it is too late!

The Holy bible is the word of God and that is all that matters. We dont read it for man or any other "worldly reason" or listen to propaganda. for those who do not take the Holy Bible and God's words in it for what it is in truth by god, that is something they need to find answers for in their own lives. I know the truth and that is God's words in the Holy Bible. Satan likes to mess with lives and give illusions such as what you wrote here to keep others from walking with the Lord.
