and of course I would neuter them and how soon does that happen? I have a cat but I got him from the pound so they did all of that. I've never taken care of a baby baby kitten.

Kittens can leave their mother at the earliest 6 weeks old. But if they don't know how to eat soft food then you might want to wait. The most common age would be 8 weeks old. You can easily teach a kitten to use a kitty litter box no mater what the age by putting their paws in the litter and rubbing them around. this will leave the smell on their feet and will show them there is a place in the house where they can dig and bury their waist.

The short answer is 8 weeks, give or take a couple. The long answer is, when they are ready to be weaned. They must be able to live solely on solid foods. I have one cat who got lost from her mother, and I took her in at about 8 weeks of age. I do not know how long she had been on her own, but it was long enough she had lost weight, and looked only 4 weeks old. While she recovered with good feeding, at 5 years old she now "kneads" her paws on me a lot more vigorously than any other cat I have ever had. Sometimes I have to stop her because it starts hurting. Excessive kneading is a characteristic of cats who got separated from their mothers too soon.

The laws where I come from says minimum 10 weeks, preferably 12. I got one of my cats at 12 weeks, two at 16 weeks and one at 10 weeks.

Physically it's rarely a problem taking a kitten from its mother when it's 8 weeks old, but studies have shown that a high percentage of these kittens develop problem behaviour (OCD, aggressiveness, anxiety) later on.

I was given an ultimatum from the lady I got my kitten frrom. She had him listed in the Traders guide as an 8 week old kitten. But when I got to her house and saw him, he looked no more than 5 weeks old...he fit in the palm of my hand and was still nursing. She said she was getting rid of the mom and kittens and had only one left (the little runt). She said she was going to kill him if I didn't take him.....so I did.

I bottlefed him for quite sometime, and when I took him to the vet for a check up and shots, he said that he was only 4.5 weeks old. =(

But he's now 5 months old and is doing great....aside from the Suckling that he picked up. The vet said he sucks on my adult male cat because he sees Rocky (adult cat) as his mother. I was told he'll probably always do this. He also suckles on my pillows. Its cute and annoying at the same time.

but hey! I saved the little bugger's life!!!!

In general, kittens should not be removed from their mothers until they are at least 8 weeks of age. Kittens seperated from their mothers at too young an age require special care. Exceptions to this are feral kittens who need to be removed from the mother no later than 4 weeks of age so that they can be socialized.

Usually kittens have to be 6 weeks to separate from mom. But if the are already eating cat food they can be winged, but no sooner then 4 weeks.

you can take the kittens away from there mom as early as 4 weeks. just get a cage if you can and put dry food and fresh water in there and they will learn on there own.

i had 6 litters and they all did well and it will be a lot easier on you also. and the earliest to get them fix is as early as 6 weeks done that also with my male kittens.

good luck.

Usually 9-10 weeks. When I got my Himalyan persian I had to wait until he was 12 weeks old before the breeder would let me have him. And yes, per his contract I had him neutered as soon as the vet said he could be. Every pet should be fixed. :)

Hello...if mama cat is OK, just let her do the work, she will do everything when the time is right, including litter box training..if things are done too early, cuz humans are inpatient, then you can have problem kittens/cats ...Take Care :)
