This was Ross Perot's answer to illegal immigration years ago..about fifteen years ago and no one would listen..I thought it was brilliant., and we had the opportunity, when they asked for a 50+ billion dollar loan under Slick Willie's regime, to make it a stipulation as part of the loan, to make their wage equivilant to ours...would this solve the problem? I think it would

Well, you cannot go and add new terms to the loan now. You would have to make another loan and add the new terms. However, that may not do the trick. What if the put the law on the books but never enforce it? That would not help out Mexicans wanting to come to the US to work.

What if Mexico put the law in place but then decided to tax the heck out of anyone who makes the money. I do not know what the tax situation is in Mexico (kind of curious about that now, though). Whatever the situation is though, it could change.

What if the US decided that Mexico was not living up to its end of the deal and demanded the money back? Lets say that Mexico gave the money back and made their economy worse. That would force even more people over. Lets say they refuse to give the money back. What then? Can't really declare war in that situation. I mean the US could do so but I would bet that the United Nations would throw a hissy fit and also this war would be even less popular than the Iraq war.

I do not think that requiring Mexico to have a minimum wage will help prevent illegal aliens from crossing over.

Of course this wouldn't be possible and there would be huge problems with it- although come to think of it, we would be just as justified going in there and telling them to raise a minimum wage as we were in invading Iraq. Anyway- if there were an end to the corruption in Mexico, we wouldn't have anywhere near this number of illegal immigrants. But that has to come from within Mexico.

We can't force another sovereign nation to raise their minimum wage....I think NAFTA is the reason we have so many illegals coming into this country.....When I go to Mexico, the inflation rate is very high....EVERYTHING is very expensive contrary to what people think....This happened because of NAFTA....It didn't used to be so expensive before NAFTA....What NAFTA did to Mexico is put a lot of small business people out of business and if know anything about Mexico, much of its economy is based on small business, much more than here.......They couldn't compete with all the American products coming into the economy...After seven years, NAFTA has not delivered the promised benefits to workers in Mexico, and few if any of the agreement's stated goals has been attained.

I dont remember him saying that , but since you said he did i believe you . He always had a pretty slick way of looking at things . Mexico is so corrupt I don't know if anything could help that third world dump.
If you are not a white Spaniard with money, you won't be getting any or controlling it .Mexicans get the shaft and we have to bear the burden .

If we did raise their minimum, it would be quite a jump. The men who worked at the restaurant told us co-workers that in Mexico, $13 a day was considered a nice wage. If it's true, and he wasn't pulling our legs, how much would you have to raise the minimum to reach our usual $40-$100 a day?

Here's what I don't get... everyone is screaming that we need to get out of Iraq, and quit meddling in everyone else's business, but in the same breath people will say we need to tell Mexico what to do. Hypocritical, isn't it?

I'm not saying that's your view on Iraq - I'm certainly not projecting what your own personal opinions are... I'm just speaking about the generalized public opinions out there... and what seems to be the general tone of things these days.

We can't force Mexico to do anything that would help us. They have us where they want us....Their people are working in the US and sending dollars back to Mexico.

I don't think so due to the fact that they would still have to work. Why would they want to do that when they can come here & get everything for free & never lift a finger?

Yes. Now you know why there's so much opposition to it.
