You could try a special wash for the dog that will control the dander. That is what most if not all are allergic to. I have three cats and I am allergic to all of them. When I play with them or pet them I do not touch my face until I wash my hands. I also give them a bath once a month. This gets rid of the dander and loose hair. Also don't let the dog sleep with the people who are allergic.

I also take OTC like Claritin or benadryl. I am also getting allergy shots since I am allergic to almost everything and that is also working well.

Good Luck. Just give it time and try a few things at a time not all at once.

I have the same problem. I have 2 cats that I am allergic too. I refuse to give them up. So I started taking allergie pills. The ones that are generic to claritin work just fine. But I've also found the taking Vitamin C 3 times a day and 1 Centrium a day seems to work out. But everyone is different. there is a lot of different cures out there you just have to find the one that works best for you.

Yes there are alergy meds. some over the counter some by prscription. The allergies are caused by the dander. Try shampooing your dog in a shampoo that helps reduce that. Anyone that works at a major pet supply store should be able to lead you to one. You have to remember you can't do it once and think it will last forever it is an on going process. The pets get dandruff like us.

Honestly...
I have 2 cats and we just got a new puppy...Im very allergic to my cats but I have had them 8 yrs. I take meds and, over time, I have built up a sort of "resistance" to them. Are you sure its the pet and not something else (like this time of year is the worst for seasonal allergies). Definately-keep the dog OUT of the bedrooms (completely)-use air purifiers in there (the bedrooms). Get rid of carpet and try to keep him off of your furniture. The meds are great. My daughter takes OTC (over the counter) Claritin (she is 12y/o) and it helps her.
Good luck
PS -what kind of dog is it? Do you brush it and get the extra hair off (do outside if possible).

You may have to see a doctor about getting shots for the people who are allergic. And perhaps take out the carpet and heavy drapes that are trapping dust and dander.

Good luck!

There are a number of over the counter and prescription medications that can be used. Your pharmacist or doctor can tell you more. My husband (a pharmacist) is allergic to my dog, and he takes Zyrtec (this one is a prescription medication).

Tigger mentioned allergy shots. They do work, but they may take two years to start helping.
