I've finally started to try and get to a healthy weight. I'm avoiding using the word diet, because it's more of a long-term change. Anyway, so I'm 160 now, and eventually I want to get to 125 or something. I've done well, but my problem is that I eat, and then I get hungry like an hour later! I tried to eat high protein and fiber things, because research showed that they make you fuller longer, but it's not working that great.
Anyone find ways to stay fuller longer to stay on track/avoid eating things I shouldn't? Or is the only trick high will-power?
Any input is appreciated :)

Thanks for all the help. I think I will try to snack on maybe fruits or something. Other than high calorie protein bars (it's just the easiest thing at work). To keep the calories down. And water!
and I'm 5'4. So I think 125 isn't too unrealistic. I'm working on small goals first though.
150 first :P

if you are losing weight healthy way you shouldnt be having this problem
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

I've lost 60 lbs over the last year, so I'll give you my trick. Eat several small meals over the course of the day. Also, if you are hungry grab a small snack, but not a processed snack. Processed foods in general are very calorie dense meaning that for the volume of actual food you are eating there are a ton of calories. Choose things like apples that are high in fiber, but low in calories and fat. That'll keep you full until the next meal. Also, drink plenty of water. It's amazing how drinking a little water will trick your body into thinking it's not hungry. Another thought is what is your height? 125 is a fine weight for someone who is 5'4" or so, but if you're tall it might be an unrealistic goal.

I eat my carbs in the morning and then small meals throughout the day. The bottom line is, your body is adjusting to eating healthy/less right now. This is the most important time, if you cave your weight loss may slow down because your body wont know whats going on, however if you train your body to expect small meals of protein or fiber then it will know not to be hungry until the time it has to eat. I know its the hardest thing to do but the trick is really willpower, that doesnt mean starve yourself, it just means you need to ask yourself, "Am i hungry or am i just bored". Most of the time it will probably be the latter. Also when youre hungry try downing a glass of water, sometimes your body is just thirsty. But keep your chin up and take control on your own body dont let it control you!

GOOD LUCK!!

I am at 160 too! That is what I weighed this morning. I want to get to 125. I am 5'5" We should have challenge to see who can get there first! :) That should keep you from eating too much. Anyway, I have found that it is all will power. But, if I go a whole 24 hours without eating any food, just drinking liquids, I am not as hungry. I do this sometimes when I feel out of control hungry. I know it may not be the healthiest way to curve your appetite but it works for me.

here is what i did--i stopped smoking and was slightly heavy to begin--then gained even more weight---i was well over 200 pounds and only 5 foot 10----i am now 182---and here is how
i have no willpower so the only diet that work for me is one that does not restrict calories---i took the protein diet eat as much protein as often as you want---and you will still lose weight-----the first couple days are the toughest as sugar and caffeine go out of your system your bodies craving are huge and that is why most people fail---or if you cheat one saturday the next few days after are miserable-- now i say eat as muh as you want but i of course mean eat when u are hungry and eat till u are comfortably full---dont just eat as a hobby!!

Try smaller meals more often. I usually do yogurt and applesauce for breakfast. Yogurt for a snack with some raw fruit and vegetables. I eat one smaller healthy evening meal. But the 60 calorie yogurt by dannon tastes great and i think it is 8 oz. They have some flavored mini delight rice cakes by quaker only 90 calories. They satisfy and fill.I prefer the strudel and chocolate drizzled. Burn more calories than you put in. A good program means 2-3 pounds a week.

its good that you are always feeling hungry, because your metabolic rate have respond to the high protein n fibrous food. Drink more water to curb the hunger pangs. Try to eat every 2 to 3 hours. It is really good for upping your metabolic rate. If you can, try to do more cardio, 45 minutes, 3 to 5 times a week. You be able to see your results faster and it is good for your heart as well.

Try getting the 100 Calories bars, in the grocery store I have one mid morning and one mid afternoon most days and this will hold me until my lunch time and dinner as well. A good tool to use is try to only consume 1200 calories in a day. You also want to watch the sugar, fat, and sodium in the foods that you are eating.

Eat low gi foods, and eat more of your daily calories early in the day. Avoid processed foods and wheat. If you are hungry, eat! Just eat an apple or something. You can eat apples all day and not gain weight.
