You should know better than to ask that type of a question.
You will stir up the hornets nest.
Is that what you want?

I once asked the same question. My Step-son was a huge Dale Sr. Fan and I did not understand why he loved watching cars racing around in a circle for 3-4 hours.
Fortunately for me, the first time I sat down with him and watched a race it was Fox's first broadcast of the Daytona 500 (2001). Fox explained everything about Racing; talked to the Drivers; talked to the Crew Chiefs; they helped me to understand what was going on inside the cars, inside the Driver's heads, and the strategies the Crew Chiefs where using.
Sadly that was also the day Dale Sr. lost his life. When I saw my Step-son cry I knew there was something special about NASCAR. Since then I have fallen in love with NASCAR and drive my Wife nuts with my love for it.
Everyone has their thing. I don't get Dog Shows; but you will never see me knock them or make fun of them. I grow weary of the rudeness in which people show each other when they don't understand someones thing. I am tired of NASCAR Fans being stereotyped as mentally retarded, inbred, hillybilly, rednecks. I am also sick of some of the snobbery of people who don't get NASCAR as if somehow my loving NASCAR makes me less human then they are.

Many people can multi-task. When I watch NASCAR I: do laundry, clean house and/or talk with friends. It is a sport that gives me a choice to do everything or nothing but sit and relax. I find the drama as interesting as any show on TV. I can leave it on in the background and go on with my life.
The team work and personalities are interesting to me. Remember it is not just the driver that has the spot light but the crew, the track, the weather and everything. Just as any sport, nothing is a sure thing. If NASCAR isn't interesting to you then you are free to seek entertainment elsewhere, just as we all are. What ever you consider a sport, ENJOY!

That's a long race! I started watching NASCAR a few years ago. I never understood it either. I started watching it with some friends because I liked the drink special. Once you get to know the strategies, drivers and rivalries it becomes a lot of fun to watch. There's a lot to it than driving in circles than you would think. If it doesn't seem appealing to you, then don't watch it. You don't have to be a d!ck to people who do watch it either. I'm sure there's a lot of stuff you like that most people would think is stupid.

Clearly, MOST of you that have responded to this questions aren't NASCAR fans and why you're reading these questions is beyond me! Find something better to do!
If you don't understand it, then, yes, it is boring. Once you know what 'tow', 'camber', 'wedge', and the like are, and what they do, you realized that they are NOT just driving in circles. It's more complicated, takes more skill and knowledge (then most people will EVER know) and sheer passion then any other sport (racing as a whole-F1, Indy...). My ex converted me and I've converted my mom. You have to have patience to learn it and it does take a while to enjoy it. BUT, once you're hooked...you're hooked.
Go Jr & Tony!

Something else to ponder: Why ask the question. If you don't like it don't watch it. Some of us do like it, because it's not just cars going around and around and rarely does it last five hours. What difference does it make to you if we watch?

Why would you want to watch Tiger Woods walk a cow pasture smacking a little white ball with a stick for 3 hours?

What i don't get is if all of these people who put negative comments on this question about how all nascar fans are rednecks and blah blah blah, if they don't like it why are you on the nascar question forum to begin with?
if you don't like it or understand it or what ever your beef with it is then why are you wasting your time to tell other people how much you hate it? i think you would find a better way to spend your time, you don't see me stating how i think all people who watch golf are preppy and snobby on the golf thread. so i think you just need to quit wasting every ones time and go answer some questions about something you do like

A usual race is about 3 hours. Not 5.

Why would I want to watch...
1. guys chasing a tiny ball around.
2. a guy throwing a ball while another guy tries to hit it.
3. 10 guys running back and forth on a court.
4. 2 guys hitting a ball over a net so the other guy has to walk after it.
5 12 guys hitting a little black pellet you can hardly see, just to get in to fights.
6. 22 guys crashing it to each other.
7. 2 guys beating each other up.
8. 22 guys running around a huge field.
9. any "extreme" sport.
