Your first answerer has a point in what he said. It is not clear in what reason.
We're all nervous at times. Even the most extroverted. We just don't get nervous at the same time and place and for the same reason.
If you're nervous don't worry, you in good company.
Here is what I do before speaking in front of a group or church assembly.
1. I Pray fervently 2. I rehearse several times alone 3. I inhale and exhale by pressing my belly 3 or 4 times a few seconds before going to the lions den.
I sometimes begin nervously, but in the middle and by the end of my speech the nervousness is gone! I often get positive comments on my speech.
To God be the glory.
Hope this helps a little.

If you are going to proclaim your faith then say what you believe (2 Corinthians 4:13), but make sure that what you believe is actually written in scripture. Read Romans 10 and then go back and read John 13 through John 16. Then read the books of 1 John, James and 1 Peter. Do this over and over and you will be ready to speak. And don't be shocked if you are the only one in your church who actually speaks what is in line with scripture.

First of all the members of the church are there to support you not to embarrass you. Take a deep breath and take your time, don't rush because when you rush you will make mistakes.
As to what you have to say, gather some facts that are important to you write them in a form that will be presentable. When you are comfortable with what you have read it to one of your friends and/or family members see what they think and if they give you the thumb up continue to practice in memorizing it until your big day, remember concentrate, breath and take your time.
Keep in mind that the people that are sitting behind you can not see you so concentrate on the person in front of you only, don't let your eyes wonder and remember to breath.
Good Luck.

Just tell them what you believe from your heart. They are not looking for the right answers just a right attitude.
Pray for the spirit to guide you. He will put into your mouth what you should say.
Elders (I'm one) are just men who have gotten older and wiser and hopefully have grown in the faith and understand that you don't have all the right answers and that your not a public speaker. Just remember they are just men and your personal salvation really doesn't depend on what they think of your answers but only your personal commitment to Yahshua.
I don't know what church you go too but I'm sure they aren't ogres dear.

If Jesus Christ is with you there is no need to worry. When I have been asked to profess my faith it usually goes : I believe within my heart & spirit that there is one father " Jehovah " + one begotten son " Jesus Christ " + and one Holy Spirit and that these three seperate entities are the bases for all of my beliefs. Some people refer to me as a christian but in truth I refer to myself as a brother to my lord Jesus and son to my father Jehovah and that the Holy Spirit resides within myself helping me be the best that I could be - I am nowhere near perfect and have many faults but Jesus knows of these and takes me into the family as I am. AMEN! I will be here with everyone else doing the calling to which my father and lord asks of me until the last day and I am put to rest with all those awaiting the call or the trumpets are sounded and my lord and savior call be up into the clouds for my new body/soul and to show me and the rest of my brothers/sisters in christ our new homes, AMEN!

It's natural to feel that way!! Your feeling like every word you say has to be made to convince them you are worthy enough, right?
Here is what I recommend. Tell them from your heart about your relationship with Jesus Christ and how you came to the realization of why you wanted to accept Him as your Lord and Savior. All they want to be certain of is that you understand this step. Finally, I encourage you to really focus on developing your relationship with God. Think of him as an important part of your life (which he is) and think in terms of what do you need to do to develop that relationship with him. Before reading the Bible, ask God what he wants to teach you, and then as the Holy Spirit reveals something to you, ask yourself, how you can remember and apply this to your life.
Matthew 12:11-12
11"When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say."

Can you ask to do it in private. With just one or two elders.? Does it have to be with everyone.? Try and explain it to them the way you feel. They might be understanding. If they arnt, then think of it that you only have to be there for a few moments and then it is over.

It can be a bit nerve racking, but it doesn't have to be. Just approach them and tell them how you feel and what kind of decision you've made. They are there to help and will walk you through it. They are not waiting to laugh at you or do you any harm, they are there to help you move forward in your faith. Go for it and do it with joy.

Professing your faith isnt just for the Elders and only for them to be a witness of, the main one you profess it to is GOD. So dont do it for man of the world know you are doing it for God only, we dont do it for man it is for God. Hope that helps. Talk to God when you do profess and dont be nervous as he is with you always. Close your eyes if you have to and let the Holy spirit work through you. You are professing to God what your faith is and only God. Not man of the world. :)
Pray to God to guide you and know what to say that day. Pray about it.
